Party Political Advertising

Update.  Thanks to a colleague I have secured a copy of the letter which was sent to constituents.

At the time of writing this I have not heard from Mr Reeves.  You be the judge of the conntents of the letter.

I am led to believe, but have not been able to confirm this, that the postage was paid for by Mr Reeves personally.

I assume he has done so because he feels it is a political mailout and not a parliamentary one.  Yet the letterhead is parliamentary letterhead.

I have not confirmed any of this but hope Mr Reeves is able to clarify a couple of issues.

The initial article follows

The following is an email I sent to Labor Minister, Qld State Parliament, Phil Reeves, Member for Mansfield.

It is self explanatory.  I make no claims or allegations.  I ask Mr Reeves to answer a couple of questions in order to clarify some points following the item I heard on the radio.

Dear Phil

Listening to ABC Radio today I heard a gentleman complaining about a letter sent by you to him (and presumably all constituents) which he believed to be blatant political advertising to elicit his vote.

This in itself is not necessarily a bad thing but in this instance he claimed it was on Qld Government letterhead which indicates it may have been (at least partially) taxpayer funded.

Do you believe the letter constituted a party political message?

Can you confirm whether this was or was not funded in any way by taxpayers please?

Could you please send me a copy of the letter (scanned email return is fine) so I may see it for myself?

I will be posting this email that I am sending to you today and any response I get from you on my website.  I want to be perfectly upfront about this.

I am a Queenslander myself and I am interested in clearing this up and I have made no claims or allegations other than to repeat the story as I heard it on the radio today.

I look forward to hearing from you

Kind regards
