Scott Morrison is the quiet Achiever.

Have you noticed how there are few 'hyped up' statements coming from parliament ?
There are no 'Look at moi, look at moi.... ' characters.
They are just heads down, working through tasks as they arise.

Us Quiet majority see this and appreciate it.
Youre kidding arent you...
Quiet achiever...you mean quiety slipping his hand into our wallets...
EG Beer tax increase announced by the ATO....
Why didnt the government announce the increase....
Answer....well, the ATO cant be cross examined at a press conference like a politician can be....
Besides...its all a bit hypocritical telling everyone they are getting a tax refund up to $1050..
(when they dont....) and then increasing the price of beer....
No...that would look bad wouldnt it...let the ATO announce it...we save face....
Gutless.....

The proposed cash ban is finally starting to get mainstream media coverage.
The Newcastle Herald reported on 12 August, “$10,000 cash limit on way”, and followed up with a 13 August editorial, “Bigger questions about ban on cash”.

ABC today posted an online report by Nassim Khadem, “Paying more than $10,000 in cash could make you a criminal under proposed law”.

The Daily Mail today reported on “The ridiculous new laws that could see Australians JAILED for paying cash sums of more than $10,000—as fears mount of a ‘destructive’ recession”.
The press coverage reports that One Nation has declared its opposition to the cash ban bill. Today Bob Katter MP also announced his strong opposition in a hard-hitting press release headlined: “Katter labels Cash Bill a ‘danger to our freedom greater than the danger through terrorism’”.
“The danger here to our freedom is greater than the danger to our lives through terrorism”, Mr Katter said. “Clearly there are a thousand reasons why people like to hide a little bit of wealth; and have access to cash.”

Mr Katter quoted George Orwell in his dystopian novel 1984 saying “Big Brother is watching”, and said that a person’s right to privacy with some of their wealth is one of the most important rights that Australians have.
“The Government will argue that this is the one and only initiative that they will implement to eliminate the black economy however, once the bill is introduced and passed, they will have the flexibility to dictate many more amendments to the law. It will give the police the power to control your cash over $10,000. Once the legislation is in place, they have opened the doors to regulate and change as they see fit. The assumption that our cash transactions are due to unsavoury activity allows for the prosecution of the potentially innocent, it has always been innocent until proven guilty?”

KPMG, which wrote the Black Economy Taskforce Report, is already lobbying for the limit to be reduced to $2000

KPMG and its fellow big four firms are complicit in the overwhelming majority of tax evasion and money laundering, which is perpetrated by their clients in multinational banks and corporations, not by individuals using cash.
If this cash ban is enacted, the government clearly intends more restrictions, as the law has been drafted so that the exemptions to the ban, such as for withdrawing cash from a bank, can be removed by the Minister at any time. The private banks already impose unreasonable restrictions on the ability of Australians to access their own cash.

There was a discussion elsewhere about drawing out $10,000 CASH to "buy" something or other. WHY would somebody want to do that?

What can you buy for $10,000 CASH? What sort of money are you "saving" by paying by CASH, rather than a Bank Cheque?

Sounds iffy to me.

If, for example, you have the cash in the Bank and need $10,000 for whatever reason, you could easily go the the ATM and draw out (whatever limit you have) on a daily basis.

Ringing the Bank and asking for $10,000 in CASH today, does sound a little iffy.

Nef, I think that the ten grand limit for starters is a bit of a furphy….they will begin with that, and before you
know it..... it will be down to two grand....
I know a mate who wanted to withdraw some money a while back and he had to go into a sit down
with senior bank staff and virtually convince them in quite a heated discussion that he was not a criminal before they
decided to let him withdraw his own money to spend as he saw fit. He is not the only person I have heard of having this
experience with banks.....he wanted to buy a motor bike....
It is just another orwellian governmental control being placed upon us in preparation for negative interest rates...

We, at the moment have fiat money (cash) and digital money...as we have the right to have.....
At the moment, we can pay, for example a tradesman in cash to do a job which will cost us less than a digital
payment. He may give us a quote for $100 cash or $120 otherwise.... In time, the government will have two types of money....digital and cash....but very little cash...
The cash within society will gradually reduce and we will be told as of a certain date, cash will be worthless...
We will be told that before that date, if we put our cash in the bank (say three months prior to the "worthless" date)...say one hundred dollars for example... when it is deposited, we will be credited with $99.......or even less.......
And then, the negative rate of say -1-2-3% will kick in to prop up the banks and every time you pay say $100 for something
the bank will charge you $1-2-3....whatever....and your balance will reduce, not by the $100, but by $101-2-3.....

That, I fear, is what is coming....... :read

This of course, is only my opinion.....just sayin.....

Is this because people don't have a PERSONAL cheque book any more?

Some people still have cheque accounts I suppose, but I think they are extremely cumbersome and open to fraud.
I don't think if I was in business, I would ever accept cheques….very archaic method of payment...

Draw your CASH from the ATM (up your daily limit) put under the mattress ... or wherever. Make sure that your house is locked and safe. Sleep happily.

Oh, make sure you have a WILL ... just in case tomorrow never comes.

SO this link is 9 months old..but Lowe admitted even then we are heading towards a cashless society...
AND it goes hand in hand with negative interest rates....
The legislation on the $10K limit on cash transactions will go through as the Labor party is way too
gutless to challenge it.....

Compliments of the CEC...
Orr is the Governor of the RBNZ....

"Orr “belled the cat” on negative interest rates by noting that to make them work, you need to stop people from using cash. This connection between cash restrictions and negative interest rates is one that Australian authorities are trying to deny as they push ahead with a law to ban cash transactions over $10,000. They are lying. Orr suggested a way to “remove the arbitrage between negative interest rates and holding cash” (meaning how negative interest rates are an incentive for people to take their money out of the bank): “Let’s tax cash holdings, simple as that: we’re back to monetary policy as usual; people are disincentivised to be holding large lumps of physical cash; they are having to think harder about putting money to work.” He cited former IMF chief economist Kenneth Rogoff, who advocates removing large-denomination notes and other restrictions on using cash, to make negative interest rates work. RBNZ is conducting an inquiry into The Future of Cash, which is taking submissions until 31 August."

US Congressman Ron Paul released a book "End The Fed" ten years ago.
It immediately shot to number six on the New Yorks Bestsellers list.

Paul's message was that the Fed was created to bail out the banks. It privatized profits for them
and socialized losses for the rest of us....
This of course is the US Fed...but arent all RB's the same.....
