JobSeeker payment set to be increased as Federal Government grapples with high unemployment
By political reporter Jane Norman Posted 18 JunJune 2020, updated 18 JunJune 2020

Scott Morrison says he is devastated by the job losses.

The Federal Government is poised to increase the unemployment benefit, recognising that the jobless rate is likely to remain uncomfortably high for quite some time due to the ongoing impact of coronavirus restrictions.

Key points:
The Federal Government is unlikely to reduce the JobSeeker rate back to $40 a day
It is unclear whether the allowance rate will rise or another supplement will be added to it
The Government is waiting for a review of all spending measures before it makes any changes

The Coalition has long resisted increasing the $40-a-day unemployment payment — previously called Newstart — which would make any increase a significant shift in policy.

But the ABC understands Treasurer Josh Frydenberg will confirm the move in July's mini-budget, when he will outline the next phase of the Government's economic response to the COVID-19 crisis.

At the height of the crisis, the JobSeeker Allowance was effectively doubled to $1,100 a fortnight as part of the emergency response but that is set to revert to its old level of about $560 a fortnight for singles in September.

Sources have told the ABC that the payment is unlikely to return to pre-COVID levels and will be increased.

But it is unclear whether the rate itself will rise or whether a new supplement will be added onto it.

Why would anyone believe anything the ABC (Channel Buttrose) tells us...…
In any case, the ABC link quoted is two weeks old....
MR Smugs offsiders have intimated since then that the increase in JobSeeker was
only temporary and a permanent increase is not planned....
It will be interesting to see if the grubberment leaks any positive information prior to the
Eden Monaro by election just to convince the plebs to vote for their muppet…..
That wouldn't happen now would it..... :rofl
The bottom line is that Australian plebs are rapidly approaching the cliff face as Mr Smug
suggests...(his words...not mine...)
BUT his popularity according to a "poll" has increased....
BUT polls dont lie do they.....they are in fact quite legitimate and should
be taken as gospel.....
THATS if you're a mug...... :rofl

Socialists flock to a handout like flies to a corpse.

Dole over work: what did our leaders expect?
AMM 30.06.20.

As former 2GB broadcaster Alan Jones often said, “If you hand out free meat pies in Martin Place Sydney, you’d have a line-up around the block!”

In 1961, John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address inspired Americans to see the importance of civic action and public service, in other words, patriotism! His historic words, “Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country!”

That was JFK’s challeng for every American to contribute in some way to the public good.

Well, the imagery of pies with tomato sauce and the notion of patriotism might have been sold by our leader, if we had one, to the many Australians who have raised their fingers to imply, “stuff Australia, we’ll take the free money thanks!”

Business owners across the nation are struggling to recruit staff despite surging unemployment, as calls grow for generous COVID-19 assistance measures to be rolled back amid fears people are being deterred from finding work.

Scott Morrison warned that JobSeeker, a temporary doubling of the dole, could not become an impediment to rebuilding the workforce, as Coalition MPs offer differing views over the future of generous stimulus measures as the economy emerges from lockdown.

New National Skills Commission data to be released on Tuesday reveals more than one in two employers who are struggling to recruit workers say their top challenge as they look to rehire following the COVID-19 economic shock

The Prime Minister said on Monday the government had received feedback from businesses concerned their hiring problems were the result of prospective employees being on “higher levels of payment”.

He also warned that the government would not allow the JobSeeker payment to “become an impediment” to Australians returning to work and “getting extra shifts”.

They're pushing for a rise of $150 for JobSeeker. Not sure if that's per week or per fortnight.

Report in The Australian said "$75 per week" ... so answer is per fortnight.

Predictions?

Hard to say, it's costing gazillions but a majority of the electorate want the provisions extended.
So my guess is the scheme/s will be ended, but in name only ... thus extended, but called something else.

Someone or a number of here stated they think/thought pensioners should always get more than dole recipients.

Well I've been on the dole heaps of times and the so called "mutual obligations" cost money ... out of the dole.
The one consolation is a health care card, which allows for cheaper medicines.

Pensioners on the other hand get discounts on electricity, land rates, vehicle rego and I don't know what else.

I also think people should consider the difference between old aged pensioners and disability support pensioners.
Old aged pensioners are genuine, old age is pretty hard to fake.
DSPs on the other hand, from my experience, are about half genuine and half scammers.
Same with carer pensioners.

I know a bloke who got 3 vertebrae fused to make sure he got a pension.
My Vietnamese next door neighbour is apparently on DSP for Lebanese back.
Well his bad back hasn't stopped him digging post holes for fencing to keep his sheep in.
Further up the valley is a heap of blockies on DSP, and except for the odd schizo, there's nothing wrong with most of them ... except they're lazy.

ONCE again the Australian Governments decides to play God.....
They "leak" various aspects of the plan for "post September" JobKeeper and JobSeeker to the media...…
JUST to release a thought bubble to gauge the publics response to the leaks....
THEN, when an observation is made by Morrison and his disciples, a decision
will be made to ensure the public is appeased....
AND of course, the muppets all swallow it hook line and sinker...…
In the meantime, the muppets will be praised for doing a great job by socially distancing...
AND once again we will be told to wash our hands with alcoholic sanitizer (maybe not if your muslim…
depending on what your imam instructs....)
AND most of all....
WE"RE all in this together...…
(Don't forget to check under your bed tonite….the corona boogyvirus might be hiding)…. :rofl :rofl :rofl

BUT but but.....
I thought Morrison said that JobKeeper would not be extended.....
He was stating emphatically months ago that JobKeeper was only temporary, and that
it was legislated to end in September.....
Maybe the Australian economy is more fucked than he thought....
All these changes to JobKeeper and JobSeeker are sugar coating the fact that
the Government screwed this up big time.....
All the blah blah about rates of profit and tiered assistance etc is just doublespeak
to hide the fact that the government has screwed the economy with its handling
of the plandemic…. :rofl :rofl :rofl
