Here we go again, now the bureaucrats are scanning Facebook (by definition a personal site) monitoring what we say and write. WA is moving from being a Nanny State to being a Big Brother.

"A Roleystone plumber has been fined $200 for a one-line comment he posted on Facebook.

According to a Plumbers Licensing Board investigation, Barry McMahon’s comment that anyone who needed a plumber should call “Bazza” was an advert."

They said it broke the law because it failed to include Mr McMahon’s licence number.

As to the issue of Zionism, it is really moot. Israel exists; it is UN recognized, it is not going anywhere. The only Zionist movement left is that of greater Israel, the belief that the West Bank should be part of Israel too, Howard did not support that, he supported a two state solution, as does the US, rendering both nation’s policy on the issue not Zionist.

Indeed, if the Palestinians were not the worst led people on Earth they would have their state. Even the old warrior Sharon abandoned the idea of greater Israel, forced the Jewish settlements in Gaza out and unilaterally withdrew from the territory. What did the Palestinians do? Attempt to build anything? Show that they can run a territory for the first time in history (no Palestinian state has ever existed), use the aid from the US to benefit their own people? Nope, they fought a civil war then used Gaza as a base of terrorist attack against Israel for years. Destroying any internal pressure in Israel to then give up more territory.

As to the press, Israel is the only country in the Middle East with a free press, a press that often criticizes government policy, one that debates the issue of the West Bank all the time. The press in the Arab world is nothing more than propaganda organs for the state, and usually anti Jewish hate organs. Some of it is so primitive it can hardly be called a press at all, more like a medieval program.

It seems to me that it seems to depend on where you come from as far as your opinion on Zionists, people who are born in Europe or the USA seem to be very protective of Zionist actions, no matter what they are.

I have not heard a lot of opinion in Europe or the USA supporting the idea of a greater Israel, the only form of Zionism that has any meaning now. Indeed most the UK papers actively oppose it, some are anti Israel no matter what she does, like the Independent and often the Guardian. The BBC has been critisised for having slanted coverage in favor of the Palestinians. The French press is highly slanted toward the Palestinians and far more critical of Israel as well.

Maybe Rudd got it right when he said there will be a New World Order - but I doubt it. Although our leaders pay lip service to those who voted them in, Israel continues to always do exactly what it chooses.
Like many a president before him, Obama has let it be known that he wants the bones of an agreement for Palestinian sovereignty on the table within his first term.

Netanyahu visits Washington in the context of the new US Administration seeking dialogue with Iran and Syria. Obama's important visit to Turkey last month is to be followed up with a keynote speech in Egypt.

But since Netanyahu was sworn in in March, elected on a platform that explicitly opposed Palestinian sovereignty before security for Israel could be guaranteed, the main protagonists have ceased talking.

Appointing as Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, whose main election policy was to expel any citizen who did not sign a pledge of loyalty to the state of Israel, has not helped.

This week Netanyahu met the leaders of the two Arab countries that recognise Israel, Egypt and Jordan, only to be told the two-state solution was the only way to go. And European leaders have warned of dire consequences if Israel abandons the two-state solution.

"The US media is baying for blood," Danny Diker, director of the Jerusalem Centre for Public Affairs, said.

An American-born, unashamed right-winger with close ties to the Netanyahu Government, Diker said the Oval Office meeting would inevitably be a fizzer.

"First, the bond between Israel and the United States is unbreakable," he said. "Second, President Obama is a friend of Israel. He was elected with 80 per cent Jewish support. He has visited Israel and, when he met Netanyahu last year, I can tell you, the two saw eye-to-eye on all the key issues."

Both the UK and France have large Islamic populations, in France it can be quite radical a population as well. Note the rioting by "French youths" a few years ago, those "youths" were all Muslims, but the French press was afraid to describe it that way. France too has been experiencing a minority, but very virulent resurgence of anti Jewish hate as well, and then there is the well-known ambivalence in France to democracy promotion or protection. The French refer to this as a "nuance" foreign policy. Translated, they will defend no principal other than short-term French interests and they see it as in their interest to go with the majority in the Middle East, even if it is an undemocratic majority baying for Jewish blood.

The UK just has a vigorous press, the Times and Telegraph is pro Israel, Guardian and Independent more sympathetic to the Palestinians.

I was hoping you were going to say that the press in those countries are not majority Jewish owned like that in the USA and a lesser extent in Australia.
I find in Australia that News lmd always run the Jewish line, no matter what atrocity Israel commit.
You could also conclude that the press who condemn Israeli actions do so as Israel deserve the condemnation.

There will be no order of any kind if a UN recognized state is extinguished.

The US does have a strong bond with Israel, because she is a democracy. Because she did not actively oppose the US in the Cold War nor has she threatened US interests in the region, most Arab nations have at one time or another. Countries go with their benefit. Still the US was critical in brokering peace between Egypt and Israel (Egypt is just behind Israel in US foreign aid) and was critical in every concession the Palestinians have received in land from Israel. And the US has offered the Palestinians generous aid packages if they would end terror and concentrate on proving they can build a viable state. This is a faith no Arab country has shown in the Palestinians, all keep them in a permanent refugee status, Jordan which controlled the West Bank until they threatened Israel and lost it, never offered it as a state to the Palestinians.

Indeed, since Reagan the US has wanted an independent Palestinian authority on the West Bank, but it was George W Bush that actually called for a state, even Clinton did not do that.

Bottom line is the only way the Palestinians are going to have a state is with US sponsorship and the only way they are going to get that is by stopping the terror and concentrate on building a life on the land they do control. Until they can prove they can do that, Israel will give up no more land no matter what the US wants.

Nor should they.
