Dune

With the movies of Dune and the second one ruling the box office so far this year.
Dune is the story of the Kwisatz Haderach - the one who is everywhere at once.

Now the movies are showing with the illusion that Paul Atreides is the 'hero' and Kwisatz Haderach, but really - he (and his 3500 year long 'Tyrant' son) is the most ruthless Tyrant more genocidal than the evil Harkonnens.

In truth, Duncan Idaho is the real Kwisatz Haderach. He who is killed protecting Paul Atreides. He who is reborn as a Ghola (Clone) and a Ghola who is the first to regain his memories and spirit. Thus, after each 'Ghola Regeneration' - he is still there thousands of years later. For he is indeed one (person) who is everwhere (through time) at once.

These movies are in time ready for the French Messiah (Atreides) and the Last Great Moslem Islamic (Fremen) Jihad.

I went to see the original Dune movie in 1984 and if I hadn't read the book I wouldn't have had a clue what it was all about.

I love science fiction but Dune definitely wasn't my cup of tea. Give me Robert Heinlein any day.

I saw the movie before I read the book. It was like a deluge of bits and pieces that made very vague sense of what was going on by the time I got halfway and not much sense at all by the end of it.
Thankfully the Book made much more sense and although Herbert is a great Story Teller, his writing style can be tedious and like bones in the sand with no meat.
With the creation of Herbert's last part of his story brought to light (long after his death) - the story goes full circle as the Butlerian Jihad against the Machines (Skynet, etc) that ruled Humans comes back to haunt humanity. We see Duncan Idaho turn into a Machine/Human 'God'.
