We’ll just keep chipping away and sooner or later we’ll get something that resembles a house 🏠

I hope...

We are ready for inspection on the frame but now our Building Surveyors are on holidays till the 6th :mad

I've built from scratch 3 times and loved every minute of it.

I have never done that.

How does it work? What happens?

We did it as 'owner builders' too. We did a good portion of the work ourselves and employed contractors to do what we couldn't, which wasn't much.

We are going through a Kit Home company who supply different stages - Stage one - House Frames and Trusses, Roofing, Bricks, house wrap, windows, external doors etc''

Second stage - plaster, internal doors, insulation, trims etc

Third stage, Kitchen, Bathrooms etc but we'll most likely do this locally using better designed kitchen...

Get your construction white card through tafe..

managing where and when people are...

Reading, Reading and more Reading and understanding whats what...

I work with a guy who's built a kit home and he's been very knowledgeable - his son used to be a builder as well...

we are in a Termite designated zone so you need to know what to do.. be proactive..

NO ONE seems to give you advice...

you hire a Building Surveyor who wants his money straight up... gives you a huge list of things to get and basically doesn't help or give advice unless you specifically ask.. but if you dont know the right questions you can end up making mistakes...

for instance - one of our certificates that we had to get through the shire indicated that we were in a termite zone... but no one said we had to do anything extra about it.. but the guy I was working with said... YOU NEED TO GET THIS SPECIAL TERMITE SHEETING BEFORE YOU PUT THE FRAME UP...

So I look into it - he was 100% spot on... and if I didnt do it before the house frame went up I'd have had to pull it back down again...

there are a lot of new rules and regulations that other owner builders haven't had to do but you just have to keep chipping away.. chipping away... chipping away...

Talk to tradies about recommending other tradies to do different jobs..

Focus...
