Coronavirus - how will taxes go up?

Post by Bobby » Mon Apr 13, 2020 5:21 pm

The economy will be shut down for 6 months or more.

ScoMo has failed to say how our taxes will go up in order to pay for it.

I'm thinking:
(1) a rise in GST to 15% or maybe 20% ?

(2) raiding our super funds and giving us Govt. bonds - funny money for our cash?

(3) changing negative gearing and many other tax rules?

(4) lowering amounts paid out in social security?

(5) taxing people far more on their salaries?

In any case we will have to adjust to a lower standard of living
as the recession turns into a depression
not only here but all over the world.

When I think about the cost I somewhat agree with Aqua because the young are going to be hobbled by this debt for generations to keep the oldies alive.

It will mean a lower standard of living for everyone for at least 10 years.

Lower living standards lead to crime, civil unrest and draws nations into conflict. The price of unintended consequences from this could be very high.

China will let it purge the old and weak and will be stronger.

China will let 10s of millions die rather than destroy their economy.

6 months? Screw that. I guess the difference is that we are coming into Summer and the virus will have a harder time spreading.

Perhaps the govt will follow USA's example and greatly boost local manufacture which will mean squashing the evil anti-Australian unions.
