Humanitarian intake figures. We are taking more refugees "the forgotten people" than ever. Good!

Re Pacific (non) Solution:
Pacific solution cost $1b - Connie Levett Immigration Reporter, August 25, 2007

THE Federal Government's "Pacific solution" for asylum seekers, designed to discourage arrivals by processing them offshore, has cost more than $1 billion over five years, according to a new report.

The cost was high, the impact on the asylum seekers was negative and it did not discourage people from coming, says the report, A Price Too High: Australia's Approach to Asylum Seekers.

The Fibs still trying to get xenophobia going. This QT they are basing questions on last nights 60 minutes report. Yup, can't get more highbrow current affairs than 60 Minutes hehehe

Oh dear. Back to the Future. Seems the Fibs are going back to the Howard years. Pacific (non)Solution, refusing to pass the ETS etc etc.

If they do go back will some of the (few) moderate Libs like Russell Broadbent leave the Party and become independents? Much risk in this silly policy brought about because of desperation, unwillingness to regroup and modernise, work out more up to date policies etc etc. Truffles seems a hostage to the ultra rightwingding faction. Must be galling to him.

If they do this Labor may well pick up Wentworth next election!
