Social media restrictions

Post by tllwd » Wed Dec 03, 2025 11:29 am

Social media age restrictions start 10 December.

How will it work?
Will adults have to prove their age by giving more information about themselves on line?

Of course, and welcome to the Auswellia project btw... we are officially their social media control group, the most censored, monitored and controlled nation on earth, because a vocal minority thought it might be a good thing.

Let's see how they feel when they need to flash their drivers licence on camera via a website demanding authentication, wherby they wake up to find their bank accounts fleeced by said data security companies offshore sub-contractors employees friend of a friend.

Ha ha ha, remember, Big brothers always watching đź‘€

Yes and that info will either be sold to the highest bidder
or it will be stolen by hackers so they can steal money from people's bank accounts.

That's about the sum of it.

How will it work?
It simply won't work, it will result in more children accessing anti-social media content either via their parents own SM accounts, those which lack parental controls or kids will find alternative ways of accessing these sites via authentication via an older friend ( same way under-age kids still get alcohol today) or will venture into darker and more concerning sites with VPNs and or perhaps return to forums like this, ( only cooler of course) where they may find themselves being groomed, bullied or even hacked, and are too scared to tell anyone, especially adults, because they know they shouldn't have been online interacting with strangers to begin with because it's now against the law.

This is my biggest concern, that online creeps will create chat boards to fill the socials void, especially as this ban incidentally coincides with Australia's longest school holidays, 6 - 8 weeks, depending on school, whereby older children and younger teens are often left to their own devices, quite literally, stuck inside the house bored, too hot to venture outside in many parts of Australia, even if their parents let them walk to their local parks alone or meet up with friends, unlikely these days, so will find ways to connect with peers, strangers elsewhere online that Albo doesn't know exists, and is hosted overseas anyway, so wouldn't matter if he did.

Where there's a will there's a way, 6 to 8 weeks is a long time to be left at home alone or with siblings without adult supervision for several hours a day for a12 to 16 year old craving social media interaction.

Prepare for youth crime/delinquency figures to sky-rocket these Christmas holidays. I know children who have absolutely zero extra-curriculars, their only means of socialising is online or at school unfortunately.
Hide your garden ornaments and garden hose, and prepare for isolation induced self-harm , particularly for kiddos who lack support within their physical communities, church, dance camp, kids holiday programs etc.

Adding to this, the average Australian family can no longer afford to take kids out every single day of the school holidays, even if they are fortunate enough to be able to take 6 weeks worth of paid holidays ( like teachers) or work from home.

This generation of parents have become dependant on technology to entertain their children and regardless of whether you think this is bad parenting or not, most of the parents themselves are scrolling through their own socials throughout the day also, so won't notice if their kids jump on a forum owned by a psychopath in a foreign country and start hanging out there instead.

Labor government is about to be loathed my millions of parents and youths right across Australia, had they given it some more thought, they could have created a social media platform dedicated to younger people just wanting to catch up with friends and share a few pics safely online.

"Youth Space" or "Ausbook" and perhaps moderated by trusted members of the community who have been correctly screened and police checked. This could have created jobs, and generated $$$$, and would make money with appropriate adds etc.

Oh, and watch out for e-bikes and e-scooters ... they'll be absolutely everywhere these school holidays, because they will be making the most of it while they can before Labor bans these too.

My own child doesn't have socials, though I let her use mine from time to time , upload her roblox videos, flex her creativity, but she's already sorted for the holidays, off to Sydney , Kincumber, and she has her extracurricular stuff outside this too upon our return.

You don't miss what you never really had to begin with.

:hi2

This said, there's going to be swathes of kids and parents who feel very differently.
They'll be choking their kids the way Homer chokes Bart by the end of school holidays, and potentially worse.
