Most papers can be read on-line these days, just as well as most, like the Australian, the Advertiser etc don't even make good fish'n'chips wrappers! So, few weekly subs!
One paper I suggest as a pretty good read is the Australian Financial Review, pretty expensive at $3/issue. It puts its stories behind a rigid firewall, no subscription, no see!
But the best edition anyway is the Weekend edition of the AFR so just buy this. It has a lot of business stories and share prices etc which I ignore. But it also has the best news and political coverage and analysis I have seen. It has not been that impressed by the Rodent and Tip during their years so it is not just an extreme right wing publication unlike nearly all the other newspapers here!
Want to know what is happening in China? Want to know why we are in the poo and when and how we might climb out of it? Consult the dead-tree version of the AFR!

Can we get a cut of your commission?
