Cuba has introduced urban agriculture. Not able to earn much in the way of exports, hurt by oil price hike they have adapted.
Must say I think US isolating Cuba & not trading with it sucks big time. Shit, US has given most-favored-nation to Viet Nam and China, both countries that kicked US butt! So why not Cuba?

My mother has a little cookbook: "Ik kan koken. . .Nu!" "I can cook. . .Now!"
To do with cooking in the dreadful 'hunger winter' of '44 when the krauts were stripping the country & sending the loot to the Fartherland. Mum survived on a big bag of brown beans & tullip bulbs (which tasted dreadful!)
Stuff like 'can't afford anymore to peel carrots & potatoes, scrub them with a stiff brush etc. Energy also expensive, so get veges boiling, then put pot in a 'haycooker' which keeps the water hot and the veges cooking: Mum told me she just put the pot in a bed and covered it up.
Thanks to left governments we now have unemployment benefits which also help to keep downturns shorter and the absolute grinding poverty shouldn't make a comeback. mightn't hurt to review ways you can save bulk money.
