This, from PB says it very clearly:
The great problem the Liberals have is that what they are doing goes against common sense. Most people would disagree with their view as a matter of course. Stimulus packages, Fuel watch, Alcopops tax most people would see the logic behind them as common sense. Right or wrong.

So in blocking these things they don’t win anybody over. In fact they lose a little bit of credibility each time.

The ‘Rudd bank’ thing is going to be another of those things that hurt the Liberals if they try to block it. This too is common sense for people and even if they don’t quite understand it they will understand the protecting 150,000 jobs bit and the general support the govt has been getting on it.

If it does get blocked it will hurt the Liberals quite a lot I believe. Many people are scared for their jobs (and many are in or associated with the building/property industry) and anything the govt comes up with that they say will create or protect lots of jobs people will eagerly go along with.

And later if/when jobs are lost in the sector it will hurt the Libs even more even if the initiative gets through the Senate. People will remember.

Blocking big initiatives designed to protect jobs is anathema in this climate. People are not ready to grab a snake to stop drowning yet, but it may get to that point.

It must be hard for you watching your beloveds crappy ideas, exhorbitant taxation policies and propping up of big business topple one by one like dominos

The House of review, is within its democratic boundaries and obligations to perform as designed.

Good work Steve Feilding for standing up to Hate. And probably CUB.

If Labor was serious about alcopops, they would simply cut down on business hours for the pubs, and close them earlier. There was lots of sounding about the extreme violence in a certain Labor electorate for years, and the resultant injuries, violence and death.

And all Labor did was nothing to solve it.

Anarchy is the order of the Chauvinist.

Labor was just rationalising excise rates on spirit based beverages, fixing a stuffup by Costello.

Thanks to Fielding, alcopos will be cheaper again soon. Yup, congrats to that dickhead.

But

if Labor was as serious about acting as they are about mouthing, they would find a concrete solution fit for Australians. As it is, they are just mouthy chauvinists, with power.

More seriously, an $870m preventative care package is in the works to help people overcome alcohol addiction, drugs, obesity. Greens had negotiated an extra $50m for education about the dangers of binge drinking and because of your hero and the Libs/Nats that is now lost. Great work Fielding! "Broken the back of the hold of the alcohol industry on Australians" said the man who made alcopops too cheap again.

Oh thats nothing

Look at this, Family Kids out with the bath water, enter the Nanny State>

""We also talk to the children as they're having their lunch as to the benefits of the different food they're eating and talk them through trying to understand what they should do if their lunchbox does produce any waste."

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/ ... 62,00.html

The children should be taught how to do this to the BBGen administrators, just so the ALP can claim they 'have the balance right'.

:D
