mind you any menial jobs you get and put on your cv only go to prove to young HR bods, that you are past it in your old job and good for nothing else...

Agree with that. The more menial jobs you have (as the most current) on your CV goes against ever getting back to your profession/trade.

Many of these young HR people just don't have a clue.

My surgeon is in his late 60s, should I be scared?

I'm sue your Dr earning $100,00+ a year would find it quite inadequate earning only $25,000 a year.
