Now you confuse me with a greenie environmentalist when all I am saying is we need to take action to prevent in a long term (1 to 2 hundred years or so) major heating of the planet and the ill effect of that.

Asking what steps you've taken yourself to reduce your carbon footprint is not confusing you with a Greenie environmentalist. It's seeing whether you have courage in your convictions if you are really so concerned about the planet or if you are just harbouring feelings of submissiveness and begging for a government to tell you what to do.

I have a festering need to defend common sense and slap everyone that is so selfish in there own short term lives that they do not care for the long term health of our species and the planet that allows us to prosper.

I don't want government to tell me what to do as an individual. I want to see a world wide recognition of the risk and steps to be taken to mitigate them. It needs to be done in a non-destructive manner. That we all pull together for a common interest.

The success of human kind is primarily driven by our ability to have free time over just surviving because we have society and structures to ensure we don't spend every waking hour trying to stay alive (food, water, shelter). if the environment goes to shit and we have major problems delivering the basics to the majority of the world population let's see where your precious economy lands then. if you want to protect the welfare of the modern economy, humanity needs an environment to thrive in.

Short sighted pig ignorance will be the undoing of this current civilisation. Humanity will survive as a species through this but our society may not.

I can. What I hear is me addressing you with the issues, risks and qualified informed opinion and when you start to lose the argument you term on the person rather than the topic.

I would like the issue to be understood and effective mitigation plans to be defined and implemented. If these effect me... so be it.

I live in a city andt herefore consume energy in many ways just to live. I do not have a choice in 99% of it.

- if I catch a train, I don't know if the electrons were generated by a coal or nuclear power plant.
- if I catch a taxi - they are efficient London cabs but release carbon
- if I buy food it is wrapped in plastic wasteful in the energy consumed to produce it and probably fabricated from oil products
- I fly because I have to.

So don't come at me with your pathetic attempts to attack the man rather than the ball.

The issue is the net balance of carbon change in the atmosphere. We need to reduce our output or find was to remove it from the atmosphere. Restore the carbon cycle to a balance that is sustainable for the cycle and minimising the impact on the planet.

I don't mind if we throw heaps in but then take it out... that's ok.
I don't mind if we reduce carbon emission and allow the natural cycle to correct things.. .that's ok.
What's not ok is adding more and having no plan to correct the balance.

are disqualified from having a "right no speak" on this very important topic.... is that your logic.

I travel by plane. Australia is a long way to walk to. I pay the very heavy fuel tax and green taxes imposed.
I use electricity - some from Nuclear power sources but I cannot nominate or tag the electrons yet to ensure I only get the ones from nonGHG emitting sources.
I do not use gas.
