Y'see we're ruled by psychopaths. Psychopathy is most often expressed as a "control freak". And control freaks are obsessed with information, colloquially refered to as "dirt". Generally this "dirt" is used for blackmail or legal issues created by control freaks, which is often one in the same.

Generally we're led to believe overtly extremist regimes like communist Russia, communist China, communist North Korea, communist Cuba or Nazi Germany are the types of government obsessed with control and manipulation for the sake of power itself, because the regime is innately insecure about its own population, and is supposedly a modern phenomenon, but the truth is the obsession with information for control has been with us since psychopaths claimed the right to rule and monopolise resources (the economy) and violence (army/police).

Now the Left expose themselves as control freaks more often than the Right because humans/people are more naturally inclined to be conservative than progressive (which these days both terms are misnomers because the Right are the radicals and the Left are the wowsers/puritans), so to be Left usually requires quite a bit of brainwashing and social engineering, and it's easier to brainwash simpletons by replacing education with indoctrination.
Those who think for themselves are more likely to be Libertarian, which these days is more aligned with the Right.
The truly intelligent can see both sides are just hypocritical fraudsters, so just make the most of a mad world.
And true elites are above politics and play both sides for their own gain depending on which way the public political sentiment pendulum is swinging.

In the Australian context there is no difference between Liberal or Labor.

Labor pretend to be egalitarian but really just want to tax us to the grave and beyond. Just look at Compulsory Superextortion where ever increasing amounts of our earnings are syphoned off to be gambled by the by the parasite class on the stock market, with the promise we get it back with interest when inflation has devalued it to a pittance. Its purpose is to reduce the amount of population who can buy their own home.

Most people don't realise the Fabian society controls Labor's agenda. They just let the unions run it for them.
The ultimate goal of the Fabian society is to abolish private property. Corporations will own everything and people with rent everything off corporations. Company shares in the Corporation will have more value than a citizen's vote at election.

The liberals like to portray themselves as pseudo-Libertarian, but in reality it is the Liberals who keep ramping up the surveillance state with ever increasing powers/rights for the security apparatus.

What most people don't realise is the security apparatus generally refered to as "intelligence agencies" dominate the politicians.
The term "intelligence agency" is really an oxy-moron, because intel operatives are by nature control freaks who mislabel the term information as "intelligence" to give the impression intelligence can be acquired rather than something you are born with or without, because psychopaths are frightened of intelligent people.
