A gunman accused of firing shots at Canberra Airport, sending passengers running from the terminal has faced court.

Police say Ali Rachid Ammoun arrived at Canberra Airport yesterday afternoon and sat near the departure lounge.

At about 1:25pm police say he drew a firearm and fired several shots into the glass windows of the airport.
