In the late 80's the excise revenue from BP covered the old age pension.

It's convenient to call for BP to pay the bill but raising excise hits the voters pocket.

What is BP ?

I am guessing....British Petroleum?
good guess.

Sorry. My mistake. I should have referenced the following from a previous post
If anyone has knowledge of the revenue versus expense side of things for Governments as well as system issues, this is the ideal opportunity to enlighten members.
The point I was making so badly was that the decisions of government made since the late 80s reduced revenue and that when every one of those decisions was made the government knew that it would reduce revenue. Most of the decisions were made for political gain.

Ergo, we get the government we vote for and if there is not enough money to pay for the services we want it's not the fault of big business, it's the fault of government and therefore our fault because we voted for them.

They made up for that by printing money -
we're now in $1 trillion of debt.

So your contention is that it's all the governments fault and even though we elected them we are not to blame for anything that they do?

We live in a one party communist state with 2 branches:
Labor and Liberal.

They have almost the same policies on everything -
so - our votes don't count for any great changes.
Labor will keep on printing money too.
I bet it will be $2 trillion in debt before long.

( The Govt. issues Govt. bonds and
the Reserve bank buys them with printed money.
The Govt. then spends that printed money.
It causes massive inflation and destroys savings in the bank )

That's a secret - probably someone in the Freemasons.
