EMPLOYMENT increased to 10,749,400
UNEMPLOYMENT increased to 498,100
UNEMPLOYMENT RATE remained steady at 4.4%
PARTICIPATION RATE remained steady at 65.0%

Not too bad, but some construction jobs (see my earlier post) and increasin number of mining jobs going.

Rudd managing all this pretty fucking good you would have to say!

Well actually he is - Gillard said there was a slight rise in unemployment to 4.5% yesterday. Gloomy economists are expecting this figure to jump dramatically, but the positive economists are the ones saying that there is no reason at all to expect unemployment to rise dramatically. We will see no doubt as other countries struggle and exports decline. What is infuriating is the obligation we have to the US under the FTA. Whether or not we want to or not - we are forced to buy crap and services from them - already there's something like a $11 billion deficit in our trade with them, yet they don't have the same obligation to us. Howard's got a lot to answer for - not that he ever will.

The Depression might lift in five years time. I think the Chinese govt will have to do more just to prevent civil war breaking out so we should be OK-ish.

America is FUCKED! Therefore China is FUCKED! Therefore we are FUCKED! So is the rest of the world!

Global warming will get worse, disease, damage to infrastructure by storm surges hitting harder & further inland.
