Obama to visit soon?

Post by Jovial Monk » Wed Jan 28, 2009 6:55 pm

Straight from meeting congressmen, Obama rang Kevin Rudd, first leader in our part of the world to be contacted by Obama!

this has fuelled speculation of an early visit here.

Hmmm *I* always knew Rudd & Obama would get on well.

That silly kerfuffle over that supposedly leaked phone call forgotten by all but poor conspiracy theorists.

You, and the whole media circus, are reading a lot into a phone call.

So fucking what. We're America's favourite in the neighborhood. Nothing's changed.

There was silly speculation about Obama-Rudd relations that have now been put to bed, that is all.

Do you think so boxy?

I think jm is right, lots of the right whinge media tried to make out Australia are not important to the USA now george w and the rodent are gone but not only has Obama made it clear WE are important it seems WE are more important than any other Asia Pacific nation including China and Japan, I think that Obama calling Rudd before he called Japan shows that Australia is still a very important ally of the USA and all the right whinge ganda about Rudd being offside with the USA is wishfull thinking on the rightards side.

The real deal with this conversation was Obama asking Australia to add more troops in Afganstan, and Australia saying 'Let me say a simple, respectful no'. (Taken out of context for the guud of the nation).

Who can blame Rudd when most NATO countries other than the UK and Canada will not front up?

Where you got that from JW must be a source not available to us.

Anyway, not a matter of more Aussie soldiers, more a matter of letting the regulars conduct offensive operations instead of only letting the SAS do it. Source for this, a few diggers who have served there (lots of Aussies moving to Muslim nations stock up at my place with stuff to make booze with :) ) and I have read something about this in AFR or the OO.

Ah, so that's why we got a 24hour bombardment of "Australia is popular" non-news items... a few rightards bullshitting that "a vote for labour is a vote against america".

Frankly, it makes Australia look like a pathetic toady nation.
