Aung San Suu Kyi

Post by boxy » Sun Nov 14, 2010 8:28 pm

Freed Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has addressed her supporters for the first time in seven years.

"If we want to get what we want, we have to do it in the right way," she said, adding that the "basis of democratic freedom is freedom of speech."

"Please do not give up hope. There is no reason to lose heart.

"Even if you are not political, politics will come to you."

And she also told supporters she was not angry with the military junta, saying she was treated well during house arrest.

"I don't have any antagonism toward the people who kept me under house arrest... the security officials treated me well. I want to ask them to treat the people well also," she said.

There are widespread concerns that this could lead to her being re-arrested by Burma's military-turned civilian government, although officials say there are no conditions attached to her release.
She seems to personify courage, grace and judiciousness.

I do wonder if that would make her a good leader though?
"But you will run your fluffy bunny mouth at me. And I will take it, to play poker."

Yes.

Her enemies are all powerful, yet she paralyses them. She is just the sort of leader you want to take you out of that sort of situation. They are lucky to have her - she will spare a lot of bloodshed.
