Relationships take work. Continued hard work. Often when couples get a marriage certificate they seem to stop trying. Do they think a piece of paper is the glue that holds their relationship together so they stop trying?

People change and they either grow and work together or they part and many marriages that endure many years don't do so necessarily because of their love for each other. Abusive marriages often endure because one partner is simply too afraid to leave.

There is never a 'right' time to have kids. I don't think anyone is ever really ready you just do it or you don't.

Not talking about single mums who spit them out like chips. That's a different story.

We all have our own stories, not everyone is alike. Obviously. I know several people who have had a variety of situations whereby "defacto" was OK, until the Wedding ... then children arrived and the game was on. You can NEVER EVER OWN ANOTHER PERSON. A Marriage Certificate is NOT a reason to begin controlling, however, some males seem to think this. Remain "defacto" and I gather they have a different attitude ... although the LAW says different. Men are not ruled by what hangs off their stomach for nothing.

Marriage is not necessarily a recipe for a long and happy partnership.

I thought marriage tended to destroy happy partnerships ... but then it does give someone claims on someone else's assets.

I worked for a bloke who made his (2nd) wife pay rent. His rationale was, if she wanted the farm she'd have to wait for him to die first.

But I expect, for the gays and their supporters, a lot of it is about being told that they can't do something, without any good fucking reason.

Pretty much the same as what the douchebags around here go on with, when they're told they can't call someone a poof, or a sheila or a boong, or hate on them in some way arbitrary way... they're going to do it, even if it fucks up the whole community and makes them look like a dickhead
