Abbott said it - obviously with a cynical twist in his usual style...

"I guess it's been Anna Bligh's finest hour but there are a lot of hours ahead," he told the Nine Network

Julia Gillard was disappointing in her response and I was trying to think why she comes across as so bland and impersonal. She's almost robotic and you have to wonder whether it's nervousness created by the continual negative media responses.

We should all be thinking about the families of those who have lost their lives. One pregnant young woman had her baby swept out of arms and a young boy and his mother sitting on their car waiting for rescue were swept to their death.

It has been a long time since Australia has had a disaster such as this and it makes us think about how vulnerable we are against mother nature. It is believed that the pattern of flooding, occurring not only in Australia, but Africa, Pakistan and Brazil is because the sea has been at its highest temperature ever recorded.

No doubt it will climb higher in the future and we can expect more flooding.

So first we were told to expect more droughts and now we're told to expect more floods? Make up your mind Gaia! Too bad Tim Flummery didn't mention these floods when he whinged about Brisbane being in dire need of a desal plant because it could no longer rely on rain falling from the skies. Same with that Beattie fluffy bunny. Oh how cool it would have been to see those two knuckleheads washed away instead of innocent children.

That's funny. Did you know that the La Nina effect is characterized by cooler than normal ocean temps?

You leftist warmists will twist anything to suit your fucking agenda

I am just relating information that I heard. I haven't seen the technical data yet to prove that the ocean is hotter than it's ever been in recorded history. What I do know is that the more overpopulated and developed we become the greater the destruction from these "natural" disasters.

I am cynical of the sales pitch made in regard to man made global warming, although I do believe that our physical actions create a lot of instability in the earth's surface (excavating, mining, deep sea drilling, over development etc) which leads to greater catastrophes and more extensive damage. If we cared a little more about sustainability and moderation - the impact of these disasters might be lessened.

Obviously the skeptics need to have their say also.

La Niña is a coupled ocean-atmosphere phenomenon that is the counterpart of El Niño as part of the broader El Niño-Southern Oscillation climate pattern. During a period of La Niña, the sea surface temperature across the equatorial Eastern Central Pacific Ocean will be lower than normal by 3–5 °C.
Don't worry Mantra, when El Nino comes back it is characterised by warmer ocean temps and droughts. You warmist scaremongers can restart your hysterical rantings then

The Western Pacific (off Eastern Australia) is hotter, the other side is cooler.

I think it has been reported in the media that it is a record SOI or El Nino or something. Forget the details. Basically, it is going to rain.

Hmmm. So the flooding was caused through La Nina then? Strange how suddenly El Nino is obsolete. I wonder whether the scientists claiming this to be the La Nina affect are part of the anti-global warming gang ie those working for the multinationals.
American scientists have warned that a weather phenomenon in the South Pacific known as "El Niño", which results in warm Pacific Ocean currents, is dying out and will be replaced by its opposite number, "La Niña". The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said that cooler-than-normal water temperatures have developed at the surface in the east-central equatorial Pacific.
No wonder the average person is disbelieving of the spiel used by various "experts" on opposing teams.
