Definitely Gaol for the rest of his natural life. How's that? Age does NOT matter in a homicide, surely. Regardless of the circumstances.

For some reason, he killed their two dogs as well.
Bring on voluntary euthanasia, sooner rather than later.

OIC. Sorry! Missed that about the poor dogs! Nasty man. Then he stuffed up his own "suicide". Solitary confinement for the rest of his life should cause him to top himself without any expense from the tax-payers. Perhaps they could accidentally leave a razor blade or a bit of rope in the cell?

He shouldn't be put in the position where his best option looks like killing his pets, and trying to kill himself, in order to help a loved one out of a life they don't want to (for good reason) live.

It is called LIFE! Children are born, Grandparents die. Some others die in between. Shit happens. Get on with it.
Dogs have a life span of about 12 years. Killing them is unforgivable.
Everyone says "If I go ga ga, please shoot me". don't they? I am sure they don't mean it literally.
The silly old bugger snuffed her with a pillow? What did he think the Cops were going to say?
I am Old and Incompetent isn't gonna get you anywhere.

Seeing as he tried to zap himself, I don't think he was particularly worried about the authorities, at the time. Kinda the point.

I guess it was LUV, then? Murder is murder. There are rules about it. He deserves gaol. Regardless. End of ...
