It will be interesting to see what happens. IF the media cover it.

In the Wild West he would have already been hanged.

Here's how it often happens in Texas. Good people lose also, but they have a chance to defend themselves and the law doesn't punish them for defending their home.

The laws are so different in the USA.
You can't have a gun for defense here.
A gun is only for hunting or some people can have one
if they are an armed security guard etc.

If you do have a license then the rifle or pistol must be kept in one safe
and the ammo in another safe.
There's no way you'd have the time to grab it and load it during a home invasion.
There are very few home invasions where the criminal has a gun.
Usually they would have: a baseball bat and/or a knife or possibly a metal lever
used to jemmy doors or windows.
If you're a big strong man and you have a lump of wood
you'd have a good chance of winning.
The home invaders tend to pick on people as defenceless as possible - older people etc.

In Sydney they all have guns. They randomly spray houses and shoot at each other every other night. Again these people come from the west and south western suburbs where they are spreading Covid.

I don't hear too much about home invasions just about these fools shooting each other and their rival drug criminal cohorts.

Kidnapping plot.

They didn't do it - they only plotted to do it:

FBI agents charge 13 over 'elaborate plot to kidnap Democratic politician.
They were arrested Wednesday night and face up to life in prison if convicted.

That was more of a political terrorist attack than a home invasion.
