Would it 'look' any less dangerous if that ladder I posted was being used?

Sure, if there is a mishap, that bloke is gonna fall a lot further than would be the case without that yawning canyon and it was all at ground level.

I was a health and safety officer at work in my last 2 jobs.
What I saw in that photo would mean instant dismissal from any job.
That would be a one way trip to Centerlink.
