Does big brother also record your conversations? Are you required to keep your phone on you? Are you required to have a phone?
I leave my phone off at home when I don't need it for work.
You leave your phone on, all it does is track where the phone has been.
If it comes in close proximity of a phone ( which also has the app) belonging to a person who is diagnosed with coronavirus you will be contacted to get tested for the virus.

My phone is
always on and connected to the Internet. There is absolutely
nothing on there that anybody would be interested in.
This app is to help track contacts of those affected by the virus. I would rather know if somebody affected has been within 1.5 metres of me, not that I am going anywhere, it's a safety thing, nothing to get your knickers in a twist about.

I got that a bit wrong it doesnt track your location , only your proximity to another phone that has the app.

I don't trust my phone company to not track my location, browser history, where I eat and shop, and app usage, even if it is just to sell my information to advertisers. I definitely wouldn't trust my government unfettered access to my data.
I often use fictitious first names when shopping on line to find out who is selling my data. Then I take my money elsewhere. I try to keep salesmen on the phone as long as possible to minimize their profits. I sometimes get rude and graphic to make them feel uncomfortable and be more likely to take my name off of their call list. They usually don't remove you even though it is federal law that they must do so when I ask. Sometimes, my work takes me to call centers to work on their emergency power equipment. If I know where they are located, I let them know that I know where they are when I ask to be taken off of their call list. (It only happened once.) I hate salesmen and I really hate people who give my information to salesmen.
I'm required to keep my phone on me and answer it at all times because that is part of my job except when I ask off pager. Since I have to answer telemarketer calls, I'm as rude as possible.

Those that are thinking about installing this tracking app. Use a second-hand phone for the app and nothing else. If it only tracks other phones then you have nothing to worry about. When the virus subsides, just chuck the old phone away. Your data on your normal phone will be safer.

I see this app as being a medical issue. We are in a pandemic, this will help if used.

You obviously don't understand the issues involved in downloading and using this app. Poor, poor, Sprint you don't care who spies on you, do you?

2.5 million using is so far. They say it is going to be part and parcel of smart phones in future.

Drat - I want to see about 10 million using it.
Imagine how that would enhance the tracing of any future breakout
