COVID Vaccine

Post by Black Orchid » Sun Nov 01, 2020 5:54 pm

Australia is set to start manufacturing a COVID-19 vaccine this month as the government reveals its vaccine rollout plan.

Health Minister Greg Hunt told The Herald Sun the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine was likely to begin being manufactured by vaccine manufacturer CSL in November.

Hunt said the government is also set to buy into two additional COVID-19 vaccines, meaning Australians will have access to four types of vaccines.

The health minister also revealed healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses and aged care workers, and those who are most vulnerable could begin receiving the vaccine from March.

Next will be what the government deems “essential workers” but could include transport workers and teachers.

All other Australians could receive the jab in the months after, to the end of 2021 - around the same time the government hopes to re-open international borders.

International borders won't be open for another year. Roll up your sleeves if you ever hope to leave the country.

It's still another year away, but yes I guess. I don't want to wait another year to leave the country though. I could be run over by a bus by then.

I don't see why we can't come and go and be quarantined.

I'd say you would be safer in your own home anyway. I'd be happy with that and being monitored.

Pfizer says early analysis shows its
Covid-19 vaccine is more than 90% effective

(CNN)Drugmaker Pfizer said Monday an early look at data from its coronavirus vaccine shows it is more than 90% effective -- a much better than expected efficacy if the trend continues.
The so-called interim analysis looked at the first 94 confirmed cases of Covid-19 among the more than 43,000 volunteers who got either two doses of the vaccine or a placebo. It found that fewer than 10% of infections were in participants who had been given the vaccine. More than 90% of the cases were in people who had been given a placebo.

Pfizer said that the vaccine, made with German partner BioNTech, had an efficacy rate higher than 90% at seven days after the second dose, which means protection is achieved 28 days after a person begins vaccination. The vaccine requires two doses. The US Food and Drug Administration has said it would expect at least 50% efficacy from any coronavirus vaccine.

In an interview with CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta on Monday morning, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla called the Covid-19 vaccine
"the greatest medical advance" in the world's last hundred years.

If you take the vaccine, are you allowed to leave your house?

I hadn't heard about the 28 day wait.
