Forty-nine new cases of COVID-19

have been reported on Tuesday, yet another drop from the figures seen over the preceding days.

The outbreak now consists of 612 cases, the vast majority of which are in Auckland. Just 15 have been detected in Wellington, and the rest of the nation so far remains untouched by the virus.

During a post-Cabinet press conference on Monday, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced that Auckland will remain in lockdown for a futher two weeks, while the rest of New Zealand shifts to alert level 3 at 11:59pm tonight. Northland will follow suit on Thursday if wastewater samples show no traces of COVID-19.

On Tuesday morning, Ardern said the Government is doing everything it can to keep up with the surging demand for vaccinations. A delivery of Pfizer vaccines is set to arrive in October, but until then, supply will be "tight", she said - however, it's understood a potential deal is in the works to procure additional doses.

New Zealand Covid-19
1:35 pm today

There are 33 new community cases of Covid-19 being reported today,
the Ministry of Health has confirmed.

In a statement, the ministry said there were also three new cases in managed isolation facilities.

All the new cases are in Auckland, bringing the
total number of community cases in the current outbreak to 955.

The ministry said 32 of today's cases have been epidemiologically linked. The one case yet to be linked is a person who presented to Middlemore Hospital on Saturday. There are seven others in their household. All seven are included in today's 33.

There are eight epidemiologically linked sub-clusters. The two largest subclusters are the Māngere church group - 381 and the Birkdale social network cluster - 76. There are nine epidemiologically unlinked sub-clusters, the ministry said.

In hospital, there are 21 cases - four in North Shore, seven in Auckland and 10 in Middlemore. There are also four cases in ICU or HDU.

That brings the total of cases since the pandemic began to 3593.

On historical cases, there have been 137 out of 1775 since 1 January 2021. Four previously reported historical cases now have an 'active' health status and have been removed from the tally, which is why the number has reduced, the ministry said.

So far, 36,681 contacts have been identified and 87 percent of them have received an outbound call from contact tracers. At least 92 percent have had at least one test result.

Jacinda is still chasing zero cases -
apparently she can command the tide to stop coming in:

There was no media conference today. In a statement, the Ministry of Health said there are 84 people in hospital, including 10 in intensive care.
There were no new cases at the border.
The ministry said 81 of today's cases are yet to be linked. There are 713 unlinked cases from the past 14 days.
The 25 new cases in Waikato include 15 who are known close contacts from a single household in Hamilton, where an earlier case had been confirmed and is already in isolation.
Eighteen of the 25 new cases have been linked.
All of the new cases in Northland being reported today are linked to existing cases.
On Wednesday, the ministry reported 147 new cases in the community; 131 in Auckland, 14 in Waikato, and two in Northland.
There have been 4998 cases of Covid-19 in the current community outbreak and 7746 since the pandemic began.
There were 22,007 Covid-19 vaccine doses given yesterday - 6045 first doses and 15,962 second doses.
"Today's vaccination figures show 90 percent of New Zealanders aged over 12 years have now had their first dose and 80 percent are fully vaccinated. These are rounded percentages, and we expect to officially pass the 90 percent mark in the coming days - with just 15,083 additional doses required to reach this milestone."
The Ministry also said an additional death in Auckland has today been added to the national Covid-19 figures.
"This person's death is subject to a police investigation and the Ministry will not be commenting further on it, at this stage."

I'm bored.

Let the virus run riot.
Everyone had had their time to get vaccinated, they have decided.
