Aboriginal woman murders 8

What possessed her? Pity she didn't finish herself off. She will pay harshly for this crime for the rest of her life.

The 37-year-old mother of the children found dead in a Cairns home yesterday has been arrested for murder.

Cairns Detective Inspector Bruno Asnicar said the mother was lucid and awake and speaking with police.

The bodies of eight children were found following a multiple stabbing on Friday morning.

The children, aged from 18 months to 14 years, were found in Murray Street, Manoora, where the 37-year-old woman was also located with chest and neck wounds.

"The 37-year-old mother of several of the children involved in this incident has been arrested for murder overnight and is currently under police guard at the Cairns Base Hospital," he said.

"Overnight we had the forensic people in the house. The deceased have been removed from the house.

"Today we will have our coroner and pathologist conducting their investigations with the assistance of the family."

Detective Inspector Asnicar said police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the deaths and are comfortable the community is safe.

He dismissed speculation the Manoora house had been the subject of calls from the Department of Social Services.

"It's not a problem house, as has been speculated," he said.

"This is an ordinary neighbourhood, a lot of good people, a lot of kids in the area. This is something that has caught everybody by surprise."

Investigations are continuing throughout today and police said autopsies on the children would also occur today.

Police said a number of possible weapons including knives were located in the house.

Seven of the children found dead are siblings and the eighth child is a niece of the woman arrested, police said.

Police said the suburban Cairns home will be locked down for several days while forensic officers conduct their work.

Acting Chief Superintendent Russell Miller said the investigation would take time and officers from Brisbane and Townsville arrived yesterday afternoon to assist with the complex investigation.

What a tragic thing to happen. I would think it would be very unusual for a woman to use a knife as a way of killing her own children. It's also hard to imagine how she did such an abhorrent thing to 8 of them without some escaping. Perhaps she drugged them first. If so, why the need for the knife/knives?

Who knows. It's all speculation at this time.

Very sad though. Poor kids.

Should we be thinking about re-establishing mental institutions and asylums?

She would have probably drugged them. Cairns is a busy place and the neighbours would have heard the children screaming otherwise. You couldn't slaughter 8 children quietly unless they were tranquilised.

It is very sad and the outcome is far worse than Sydney's public siege on Monday.

I am assuming she may have drugged them which is why I cannot understand how a mother could merely 'put them to sleep' and then savagely stab them instead of increasing the dose to one that was lethal to begin with.

That is true, although she'd need a lot of medication to drug 8 children. It was a violent act, so she would have to be immuned to aggression to a certain extent. It is impossible to think what drove her to this.

She had 8 (or more) children so if she was prone to PND it would have shown up long before now. She should have learned the meaning of the word contraception. Do we know how many children she actually had?

You don't all of a sudden develop PND after 8 kids. No sympathy for her, sorry.

after her 5th she developed full blown schizophrenia or so it was said--but I think it was a full blown postnatal pyschosis which by that time was possibly one and the same thing-- she became dangerous to herself and others--she struggled on but raised those kids with this illness...and she never touched hair on their heads..even though she threatened all kinds of seriously not good stuff. This could well have been her story. And many women go through a similiar thing.. and it is very sad-- this woman is not a bad woman..even though it is a very tragic story.

It's very tragic. She would have to be insane or hallucinating - either through self medication or a mental illness.

Notice that the media is shying away from the aboriginal woman who deliberately murdered 8 children.
Some media outlets have hidden the story deep into the paper - is it because she is aboriginal or is it because she is female.

Surely society is able to accept that women murder, and that aboriginals murder. Afterall they both want equality don't they.
Perhaps it should be written into the constitution that aborigines tried to murder Captain Cook and that they continue to murder.

Or is the truth too much too accept.


Now, watch the lefties who will try and cover this up, even down play it and say that society needs to understand her.

Seven Network reported that the children were part of the local community of Torres Strait Islanders.

Neighbours report having heard arguments coming from the house.


So tragic, if these kids had have formed part of a stolen generation, they'd all still be alive.

CNN are reporting more about this incident than our own Australian media... no surprises there.
