As far as AUKUS goes -
the Yanks are running a protection racket -

e.g.

'it's a nice country you've got there in Australia -
it would be a pity if the Chinese invaded and no one helped you.'

Albo and Dudd should have asked for a better deal.

How about -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia- ... -CRS2023-3

Cost $4.3 billion per unit w/VPM (2023)

Convert to $A = $A 6.6 billion each.

Lets make it A$10 billion each to give a generous profit margin for the Yanks.

Cost of 8 subs 8 x 10 = $80 billion.
Add in A$20 billion for some sub servicing port that the Yanks could use as well.

That makes a deal for $A 100 billion.

That's a lot less than $368 billion that we will pay.
I have just saved $268 billion and the Yanks made a huge profit too.
Everyone is happy.

Looks like Trump lied:

But his claim that America will have an abundance of the critical minerals
in just one year’s time may be a fantasy.

Trump,
“In about a year from now, we’ll have so much critical mineral and rare earths, and you won’t know what to do with them,” Trump said Monday, after unveiling a $8.5 billion agreement to help Australia develop rare earths projects and secure United States access to those elements.
