One arrested in hunt for armed gang following second night of terrifying home invasions

Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy and are still hunting three men following a series of terrifying home invasions.

Officers arrested the teen at a shopping centre in Corio just after 11am today.

It came after four men broke into a family home in Melbourne’s northeast during a second night of terrifying home invasions and carjackings.

The thugs entered a home in Avoca Avenue, Mernda about 4am, attacking a 41-year-old man who suffered minor facial injuries.

A mother and two children were also in the house but were unharmed.

The group stole a BMW SUV and several items before fleeing the scene.

Police later spotted the BMW in convoy with a Mercedes heading towards Geelong on the Princes Freeway.

At 4:20am police gave chase on Latrobe Terrace, Geelong West but quit when the cars reached dangerous speeds.

Police said the men are of African appearance and are likely to be the same group responsible for a series of crimes carried out on Sunday night.

Victoria Police Detective Inspector Shayne Pannell told 3AW catching the men was of “highest priority”.

It is unclear whether the attacks are planned, he said.

“We’re not sure if it’s planned, or if they’re just doing it ad hoc because they’re the types of cars they’re after, high end performance cars,” Det-Insp Pannell said.

“They don’t seem to be taking the cars for profit, they seem to be using them, driving them and leaving them.”

Det—Insp Pannell said it was a particularly concerning crime spree.

“The offending is of the extreme level,” he said.

“They are using violence forcing their way into the premises. They are not using open doors. They have disregard to the security of the premises and have no regard to the people in the house.”

On Sunday night, police were called to Pasadena Crescent in Bentleigh East at 8.40pm after four men, one armed with a knife, forced their way into a house.

They assaulted a 39-year-old man and 32-year-old woman while ransacking the property.

The victims suffered minor injuries and the thugs left with jewellery, computers, handbags and a black BMW.

Soon after the car smashed into a barrier on the West Gate Freeway and the occupants attempted to steal a car from a good Samaritan couple who drove away when confronted.

There were also reports of a carjacking in Anderson St, Port Melbourne.

Hopefully they will all be caught.

Matthew Guy lost the election last November and his main policy was to get tough on crime
and especially African gangs.
people voted for Dirty Dan & now look what we have.
The ABC is biased for Labor so they are helping Dan out.

Don't mention the African attacks.
