I'm still waiting for answers JM. :rofl :rofl :rofl
The biggest factor for massive benefits offered by the NBN is cheap delivery of bi-directional video conferencing.
Out of our 22million people how many actually need such a facility?
The goal when discussing the NBN is to ask people to look beyond their own personal, selfish interests and think of the entire country. In particular, consider the massive cost savings for regional areas. This affects everyone, because many utilities, government services and businesses pay big bucks already to deliver regional services. These costs are directly and indirectly borne by everyone, not just the recipients of the services.
You mean after the initial costs right? So what about the costs of replacement and the timetable for it? What about the development of cheaper and better technologies?
Additionally, the massive direct and indirect costs borne by residents (and their employers and families) in regional areas, every time they have to travel to a major city to obtain a service not available in their locality, will be significantly reduced by the NBN once services are delivered over the NBN. Services which can be delivered via video conferencing will revolutionise regional economies, especially for the poor. Cant do that without the NBN.
Presently can't do it with the NBN.
Emedicine as promised by Labor is science fiction still. The peripheral devices for diagnostics do not exists or are prohibitively expensive or need a qualified person to use. The results are not instantaneous and no doctor would accept the results without a face to face consultation to reconfirm the diagnosis. No Insurance company would allow a doctor to do remote diagnostics alone.

How many times do you and other ignorant people need to be told JM?

Another great PB post, even cretins like IQ and SN might understand, finally:
Wireless Vs fiber optics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiber-optic_communication" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Radio waves and light waves are Electromagnetic radiation (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_radiation) and travel at the speed of light in a vacuum, light waves travel slower through optical fiber than radio waves through the atmosphere, so the argument that light waves are faster than radio waves would be incorrect, the difference is the amount of information the carrier wave (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier_wave" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) can carry information.

Radio waves (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_waves" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and light waves can be measured in hertz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hertz" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) (cycles per second) and the wavelength (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wavelength" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) can be measured in meters, the wavelength is the distance a radio wave will travel during one cycle

Visible light (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visible_spectrum" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) 380 nm-760 nm, 400-790 terahertz. a Terahertz ( http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/ ... /terahertz" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) one trillion cycles per second.

The most common wavelengths of light signals are 850 nm, 1,300 nm, and 1,550 nm (infrared, non-visible portions of the spectrum).
http://computer.howstuffworks.com/fiber-optic.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones ... mation/4g/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Telstra’s 4G (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) works in 1800MHz and 850MHz band.

Wireless broadband at one million cycles per second or Fiber to the Home at a trillion cycles per second, and anyway you can modulate a radio wave you can also do to a light wave, a million vs a trillion, simple physics, it’s impossible for a radio wave to carry for more information than a light wave.

Like a train that departs to the city, the Radio train leaves to the city at a frequency of 6 per hour, one train every 10 minutes, the Light train leaves to the city at a frequency 60,000 per hour, more people get to the city in the light trains, if you add more carriages to the radio train (modulate to carry more data) you can also add the same number of carriages to the light train, the light trains will always carry more passengers to the city than a radio train ever could.

:rofl :rofl :rofl

If you think that in 1,2,3...5...10 years this will be relevant re communications used, you have no idea about IT and the speed of technological change in that industry alone.

ps. keep ignoring me... that's fine.
people understand why... :rofl :rofl :rofl

It is IMPORTANT to be aware of the following:

Traditional Telephone Service: during a power outage, your telephone service will still be operational. However, if you have telephone equipment that requires you to plug it into an electrical outlet in order to make and/or receive calls such as a cordless phone, it may not work during a power outage. This may limit your ability to make phone calls from your home during such an event.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP): if you have VoIP service, depending on whether you have a back-up battery, you may not have phone service when there is a loss of power. As the provision of a back-up battery varies from service provider to service provider, it is important that you contact your provider to determine how your service may be affected.

Cable phone services: most cable phone service providers supply customers with back-up batteries that last up to 8 hours during a commercial power failure. Those that provide batteries often monitor the battery’s life and alert users when and how to replace the existing battery. Since practices differ between providers, it is important that you ask your provider if your phone service would be interrupted when an outage occurs and what your responsibility is to assure you have functional backup power.

Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP): if you have phone service over a FTTP connection, your phone service will not be functional during a power outage unless you have a back-up battery in your home. Again, it is important that you contact your provider to determine how your service may be affected and what your responsibility is to assure your service is operational in a power outage.

To understand the key capabilities and limitations of different access technologies, it is important to understand a few facts about the electromagnetic spectrum.

Wireless (1 MHz – ~5 GHz), Coaxial Cable (0 – 1 GHz), pairs of Copper wires (0 – ~20 MHz), Optical Fibre (150 THz – 250 THz), and visible light.

The width of the spectrum that can be passed through an optical fibre is 100 THz, or 100,000 GHz.

This means that the information-carrying capacity of an optical fibre is about 20,000 times larger than the information-carrying capacity of the entire radio frequency spectrum.

The slice of the electromagnetic spectrum that is used by a particular communications technology is shared by all users that share the medium.

This means that the data rate available to any one user is limited by the available bandwidth of the electromagnetic spectrum used by that particular access technology and by the number of users sharing that same slice of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Wassup Monky Boy... facts getting in the way of your ability to understand them?

Want me to repeat them all for you once or twice again?

Maybe 1 at a time so you don't overload eh... :rofl

hey Monky Boy...
I'll see your blog and raise you this one.

I suppose the NBN people think everyone will own a mobile, and be in a good reception area.
Just wondering what would happen to the nbn services during a power outage?

Given the fact that at the moment we can still make phone calls over copper lines; during power outages; due to the battery backups and generators at exchanges we don't need power for the phones. Unless you have wireless phones!

Will we need to instal battery backup systems in our houses just to keep being able to make phone calls?

Will the nbn keep working using the same system for power outages?

Working in the industry I have noticed that most fibre equipment at customers premises has a battery backup that will last for several days.

My question is aimed at the fixed telephony (not mobile) side of the nbn not the internet and data side, unless we are all expected to have voip as our phone system

Do you honestly think I can't read and that a fake JM being rude is going to fool me into thinking it was him/her, when it is more likely to be someone who disagrees with him/her and usually agrees with me?
Did that make sense.
