Bream is ok raw. But I admit, I only got through half of it under the excuse I wasn't 'that' hungry.
I remember seeing an x-ray of some Chinese guy who never cooked his fish, always raw. His entire body was riddled with worms and parasites. Yuck! Mind you, China has some very filthy coastlines and rivers.

I eat it raw of the hook because I am very hungry after few hours of rowing, otherwise I do gravlax type of preparation after having fish in freezer at -21c for at least 10 days, that kills parasites.
Also when cutting fish examine guts and layer between flesh and skin.
On good side here in Au don't have to worry about nuclear radiation mutants :thumb

I am loving the Mediterranean diet rheumatologist recommended. It's healthy and anti- inflammatory.

But it's unlikely to change my style of writing much. 😉

Raw fish and meat contains live bacteria and parasites.
The health risks outweigh the benefits, particularly given the water quality around our shores lately.

For all we know, China may have been dumping raw sewage contaminated with some new virus to wipe out our marine life, who would know?

Not Albanese, nor would he care. 😃🙄

When going kayak fishing for whole day I used to eat wild oysters and freshly caught fish raw, never had any problems.

I love oysters, and have no problems eating these raw whatsoever.

Does depend on type of fish? I find fresh water fish here not pleasant when raw. I think it's the quality of water. In NZ raw fish tastes better.

In Ballarat, we have a secret lake for locals, this lake is spring fed with excellent water quality and is frequently stocked with assorted fish from our local hatcherie.
Non- locals are told to fish in Lake Wendouree.

I have been meaning to toss in a line and give fresh water fishing a go, it's just I took my big-kids fishing at a trout farm once in Sydney, and the water smelled putrid, so I made a point of throwing the fish back because the fish themselves smelled as bad as the filthy pond they were living in.

This really cheesed me off freshwater fishing.

I think you're right, re- depends on the water quality because locals speak very highly of our local secret lakes offerings, especially the rainbow trout and perch.

This said, I think I prefer salt-water fishing.

I won't even eat fish from brackish waters, ie, upper river.
