Bus driver bashed by road rage cyclist

Mon Oct 26/ 2009

A union has called for urgent action to protect bus drivers after a cyclist allegedly attacked a driver in a bus-only lane in Sydney's north west ...
Police are investigating an incident at Seven Hills on Friday in which a cyclist allegedly banged on a bus window, broke the driver's mirror, then got on the bus and assaulted the driver when it stopped.

The 64-year-old bus driver had sounded his horn at the cyclist.

Darcy Waller from the TWU says he is seeking a meeting with the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) because cyclists are illegally using the T-way lane, endangering themselves and bus users.

"It is a bus only zone there are warning signs on the T-way telling everyone else to keep off it," he said.

"We will be discussing ways of keeping cyclists off it we don't want another attack on another driver was lucky to get away without more serious injuries."

The RTA says it is in the process of installing 61 new "no bicycle" signs along the North West Transitway.

Police are appealing for help to identify the cyclist ...

Hmmm, I'm thinking that whatever ordinance they dream up to prevent this kind of thing from happening - is it going to be enforcable, or will it cause even more problems and more dangers for the police to go after those who are ignoring the new bike laws?

Just make it legal to run them down. Problem fixed, and all you need is to give the sanitation guys a bigger shovel for roadkill.

Seriously though, I wonder if they could install barriers in the road that push bikes can't ride over. Like a thin grid (opposite to a cattle grid) that pushbike tires would slip through, but car/motorbike/bus tires would just hum over.
"But you will run your fluffy bunny mouth at me. And I will take it, to play poker."
