OzPolitic forum offline
The other forum is offline. Please be patient while it is restored, and pass this message on.
The problem appears to be that hostgator want more money but were too shy to ask. They thought that shutting the site down randomly then telling me marginally effective ways to optimise it (so I could squeeze the last bit of use out of the shared hosting package) would annoy me less. They have finally decided how much more money they actually want, so hopefully it won't take much longer to sort out.

If it's getting too expensive - you need to ask for donations again. After all these years - are you still running these boards for enjoyment? Do you still have that pay pal account on Ozpolitic? Even if the members who use these forums regularly paid $5-$10 annually it would help with the costs. We are the ones who benefit.

Re: OzPolitic forum offline
I am not sure about the paypal thing. They said I am not allowed to use it because I am not a registered charity. But I don't think they disabled it. I should replace it with a direct credit card payment, but it will be a while till I get round to it.
It is not getting too expensive for me. It's just that the host people gave me no warning that this would be necessary and just shut the site down instead. Apparently it is a common experience. The google ads should still cover the expenses, though anything extra helps. The main thing I need help with is modding the forums.

I'd have your Politics section sorted in a nano second. Multiple Threads on the same topic, day after day after day.......ad infinitum. Gimme the buttons for 24 hours, and watch the change!freediver wrote:I am not sure about the paypal thing. They said I am not allowed to use it because I am not a registered charity. May I ask, Freediver, what sort of ANNUAL Fee is this? Hundreds? Thousands? I've never thought about it but it IS interesting.freediver wrote:I am not sure about the paypal thing. By "modding the forums" you must mean women's work, hey?
IF I ever became a Mod, I would leave so much stuff go un-attended. FREE speech and all that. People complaining about People. YAWN.
So Freediver, do you want me to apply? What is it worth?

FD,
Can you check the timeout parameter for being logged in. It appears to timeout and I have to relogin.
The stay logged in and autologin in feature is not working as it did before.
