But they are from the last elections debate.

And presumably when the rules weren’t as they are now.

That wasn’t this years debate, which came with a different set of rules.

Rules Rudd didn’t seem to think applied to him.

The rules were changed because viewers complained the leaders debate sounded to off-the-script... that opposed to off-the-cuff.

It seems Rudd's not a good sport, and neither are his mostly under 21 fans who have scoured old footage of prior debates that presented a different set of rules to last nights debate in order to justify Rudds readership woes.

When Mr Rudd shook hands with with Mr Abbott at the start of the debate, there was nothing in his hands, but on his lectern there was a clear plastic folder containing papers.

At the end of the debate, Mr Rudd handed the folder to his daughter, Jessica.

A PICTURE of Opposition Leader Tony Abbott purportedly using speaking notes during the leaders' debate has surfaced on social media in defence of Kevin Rudd.

Mr Rudd has been accused of cheating after debate moderator David Speers revealed the Prime Minister had used notes, which is against the agreed rules of the debate.

Footage reveals Mr Rudd repeatedly referenced his notes during the debate last night.

But despite claims the picture of Abbott with notes was from last night's debate, the photo was in fact taken during the 2010 leaders' debate with former prime minister Julia Gillard.

Upon further inspection the pictures reveal numerous discrepancies; last night Speers' lectern was not centre stage, in comparison to 2010. Abbott's hair style and tie are also markedly different.
