In this case I say political correctness gone too far, or in other words, stupidity. Political correctness in general isn't a bad thing ... sometimes it is simply a way of showing kindness ...

Here in the States, the word "retarded" is on its way to becoming the new "n-i-g-g-e-r." And don't say "cripple" the way Poms and Aussies do - that is just as bad.

The original description has been revised from;
Police say the man they are looking for is of Middle Eastern or Mediterranean appearance, 20-30 years old, about 165 centimetres tall and chubby.

He was wearing a dark shirt with a black hooded jacket and blue shorts with white stripes.

Notice that it includes Mediterranean, as well as Middle-eastern, and says he is "chubby".
He said police were looking for a man described as having black hair, a thin build and wearing a black jacket with a white stripe down the side, and blue shorts.

The latest description (possibly using more witness statements or CCTV evidence) has revised not only the racial descriptors, but also now describes him as being "thin". The stripe has also moved from the short to the jacket. Witnesses aren't all that reliable, especially if you rely on a single individual who is remembering something that they didn't realise was going to be important at the time they saw it.

Who knows which is a better descriptor? Would be a pity to discourage witness from coming forward because the person they saw in the area didn't look "middle eastern" to them.

Was riding the commuter train the other morning and thought to myself "It smells like a fucking Indian restaurant." I turned and looked at the guy sitting next to me and he looked a lot like that ^^^

The term "Mediterranean" would cover a lot of countries ... and all would use a variety of spices in their cooking, I guess. Most people in these areas would have either olive or swarthy complexions and black hair and brown eyes.

Thank God the stupidity in not being able to identify people is beyond ridiculous.

It seems that the Police have no qualms about calling a spade a spade. Must be the Meeja that thinks it is discriminatory or sexist or whatever. :zzzz

Given that every news site out there is using the same cut'n'paste description (straight from the police press release, no doubt), that theory just doesn't hold water.

What is far more likely, is that this whole thread is just the usual conspiracy theory nutballs getting all riled up, with no credible basis for their claims, about their favourite subjects. The media, lefties, teh ebil arabs and political correctness :thumb

How about newscorps latest politically correct term, the "coward punch". All in a good cause, eh :hi2
