Re: Global Warming
It's about time the US started to do something tangible to begin to lead on this most important long term issue we face.
Barack Obama unveils historic plan to cut carbon emissions
The President's order for power plants to cut emissions by 30 per cent by 2030 is the most sweeping move made by the US to combat climate change
President Barack Obama will today unveil a plan to cut earth-warming pollution from power plants by 30 percent by 2030, setting in motion one of the most significant actions to address global warming in US history.
On Monday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is expected to unveil proposals for drastic cuts in carbon emissions from power plants, which account for 40 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States.
"The shift to a cleaner energy economy won't happen overnight, and it will require tough choices along the way," Mr Obama said

Really?
There has been CO2 and much more of it in the atmosphere on Earth since the beginning.

Re: Global Warming
Watched this movie last night (tv very limited here) and thought of this thread.
Must watch movie for all climate change deniers. It is almost a docu-drama.....................

The Day After Tomorrow is a 2004 American disaster film co-written, directed, and produced by Roland Emmerich. The film depicts fictional catastrophic climatic effects in a series of extreme weather events that usher in global cooling and leads to a new ice age.

But doesn't that SUPPORT what climate change skeptics have been saying?Super Nova wrote:Watched this movie last night (tv very limited here) and thought of this thread.

It support what the climate change advocate are saying.
Global warming causes ice to melt leading to a change in the salt levels in the oceans leading to ocean currents changing leading to ice age in northern hemisphere.
This is thought to have occurred because of disruptions in the circulation of global oceanic water. This water is normally heated at the equator, moves north over the top of colder (and therefore denser) water, and then loses its heat in northern (and southern) latitudes. As it does so, it sinks down to the bottom and eventually migrates underneath the warm water back down to the equator. This flow is well documented.
Some think, however, that a large mass of fresh water flowing out from the poles would stop this current. Fresh water is a lot less dense than salt water, so its flow into the ocean would tend to directly oppose the flow of hot water from the equators. No oceanic currents also means almost no global distribution of heat. So North America and Europe would enjoy arctically cold currents instead of equatorially warm ones. The equator would get hotter and non-equatorial regions would get colder.
Of course, getting colder helps to build the ice back up. So though we're talking about a disruption, it would be a very short one on climactic time scales. Unfortunately, a short time on that kind of scale is still quite a while - that European ice age I mentioned above (called the Younger Drvas and also the Big Freeze) lasted about thirteen hundred years!

Let me know when you deniers actually can tell the future.
May I suggest a new crystal ball the current one isn't working SN.

Re: Global Warming

I see denial. Lots of it.
I see scientists shrugging off the damage done by a few politically motivated yobs.
I see more accurate forecasts
I see the US taking climate change seriously
I see the US influencing world policies
I see taxes... lot's of them to stop the polluters
I see these taxes not being effective
I see lot's of right wing whinging
I see forecasts that state we still have time
I see stupid humanity missing the opportunity to change
I see heat... changed weather patterns.... increase in extreme events
I see economies collapse as people fight for survival
I see me say "I told you so"
..... next...... no soup for you..... one year.

I haven't seen any accurate forecasts yet.
I haven't seen any accurate modelling either.
I see more CO2 yet less warming.

Re: Global Warming

I see denial too SNAP! and Lots of it.
I see scientists shaking their heads at global warming alarmists when the earth aint warming

I see more bogus forecasts from the deniers trying to make out it is happening.
I see the US a bunch of morons
I see the US trying to influence world policies but losing cred
I see taxes... lot's of them to to fix the lefty deniers mess
I see these taxes slowly but surely fixing the damage left in the lefties wake
I see lot's of lefty deniers and continual sooking about Mr Abbott but lets face it that's a given
I see lefty forecasts that will try and not make them look stupid again against real science
I see stupid humanity missing the opportunity to change and become more intelligent
I see normal weather patterns just cycling over time as per usual
I see lefties getting the shytes when economies don't collapse as people fight for survival
I see me say "Nothing has changed"
..... next...... no lettuce for you..... one point five years.
You know what the magic with my crystal ball is.
