Re: Global Warming

Looks like no-one gives a shit anyway.

Public interest in global warming has fallen sharply in the past few years despite growing evidence that man-made emissions have altered the climate, according to a study of people’s internet browsing habits.

Article: http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/environme ... 095641.ece

The number of Google searches carried out worldwide for the phrase “global warming” has fallen by 84 per cent since the peak in 2007.

There has been a significant decline in searches for phrases related to climate change in all three of the main languages of the internet: English, Mandarin and Spanish.

Researchers from the University of Oxford and Princeton University found that interest in global warming peaked in the months after the release of Al Gore’s campaigning documentary An Inconvenient Truth in 2006.

Interest remained high in 2007 when the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released a major report stating that it was “very likely” that human activities were causing global warming and that the average temperature could rise by 6C by the end of the century.

Public interest in the IPCC report published last September was “much lower” even though it said that the evidence linking human activity to warming was even stronger than it had been in 2007.

The study, published in the journal Environmental Research Letters, concludes that there has been “a strong decline in public attention to climate change since 2007” and that this could make it harder to win support for policies to cut emissions.

It says: “The observed decline in public attention revealed may pose a problem for motivation to enact climate policy.”

It adds: “Despite the overwhelming consensus among experts, substantial segments of the public remain skeptical of climate change.”

Dr William Anderegg from Princeton University said: “There is no single reason why the public have become less interested in climate change. However, research certainly suggests that economic issues, such as the recent recession, tend to take precedence over environmental issues like climate change.”

The researchers also studied how the public responded to incidents which resulted in questions in the media about the veracity of climate science.

They found that intense international media coverage of the “Climategate” affair in 2009 over hacked emails from the University of East Anglia resulted in a spike in public interest for a few days. After three weeks, the volume of internet searches for “Climategate” had fallen by 90 per cent from the peak.

Washington DC was the city with the highest number of searches for the word “Climategate” over the longer term, suggesting that while the public might not have shown sustained interest, the affair had an impact at the centre of US politics.

Public interest in the error which resulted in the IPCC grossly exaggerating the decline of Himalayan glaciers was also short-lived.

The researchers suggested that the results indicated that the incidents had little lasting impact on the level of scepticism about climate change among the public.

They also found that US public did not carry out more internet searches for climate change during two of the worst hurricanes to hit the country in recent years, Katrina in 2005 and Sandy in 2012. This could indicate that attempts to use the hurricanes to raise awareness of climate change had little impact on the public.

Could be people are wising up.
People are not falling for the scare-mongering.
That people realise there is no concensus.
That people realise how complicated climate actually is.

Well hallelujah baby!!!! About time.

Go Obama. Now here is a man who knows the truth and real risk when he sees it.

Time for you reality deniers to leave the world to those that care.

Barack Obama: climate change deniers are ignoring science

US President says not believing in climate change is like saying moon made of cheese as he issued a call for action on global warming.

President Barack Obama said denying climate change is like arguing that the moon is made of cheese, as he issued a call for action on global warming to Saturday's graduates of the University of California, Irvine.

Obama told the tens of thousands gathered at Angel Stadium that Congress "is full of folks who stubbornly and automatically reject the scientific evidence" and say climate change is a hoax or fad, while others avoid the question.

"They say, 'Hey, look, I'm not a scientist,'" Obama said. "I'll translate that for you: what that really means is, 'I know that man-made climate change really is happening but if I admit it, I'll be run out of town by a radical fringe that thinks climate science is a liberal plot,'" he said.

But of course Barack Obama said it it must be true.

Satellite data says he is Denier of satellite data like you bright spark :rofl .

Times are hard when you need to quote a denier of science to call other people deniers just to feel better. Next time don't quote a clown and quote data. That may help you understand what reality actually is. :thumb
