So why is this little prick only facing DUI charges and having his licence cancelled for 28 months for offences that occurred back in 2023 now?

Perhaps if these kids licences were cancelled immediately, and only returned following court outcomes, particularly given his multiple and serious previous offences, Samantha's likely accidental death could have been prevented?



He should have been forced into a program for repeat offenders and a drug / alcohol treatment program too.
But doing so might tarnish his AFL dads reputation as a coach?
These self-possessed parents often make lousy parents, their kids know very few boundaries because so long as they can still kick a ball, and haven't offended the code or parents reputations, all is generally granted, even substance abuse and ultra- masculanisd behaviours. The way he discarded her corpse and unlike most humans who would have called 000 immediately after hitting someone, DUI or not tells the story.

The current set-up is all wrong, these kids are allowed to retain their licences until attending court.

Bit late now, so typical of Victorian courts, zero focus on prevention, because they make more money out of brats like this than they would if they had just cancelled his licence for at least 12 months the first time. Especially cashed up AFL brats who's parents they know have the financial means to pay legals two or more years after the fact to ensure theirs and their brats reputation isn't compromised.

We need a new state and federal government that's willing to clamp down of DUI drivers, even if this means removing licences from drunk politicians who run cyclist's over after partying themselves.

Patrick Stephenson was notoriously smashing up vehicles, even other people's he'd borrowed because cops in town turned a blind eye to the golden haired boys conduct.
Orren his father is / was a drinking buddy of our city's Mayor Des Hudson, who was head of Ballarat police force before worming his way into council a few years ago and fiercely defended the Stephenson families "good character " following Patricks arrest.

The community didnt think this relevant to the case, so voted him out last local election, and made this decision based on the local knowledge of his relationship with the Stephenson's, and how initially before Feds intervened along with state government pressure , they weren't initially doing anything meaningful to find Samantha. Who knows, she may have been alive for days writhing in agony in the boot of Stephenson's car before local police bothered to start treating it seriously.

Tragic accident perhaps, but the manner in which Patrick and co concealed her remains and has refused to let the Murphy's and community at large give her a dignified burrial is pure self entitlement.

His future ambitions of becoming an AFL player like his father one day meant more to him than some "stupid old tarts" life, and the lives of those who knew and cherished her.

This was supposed to be one of Ballarats finest, a promising AFL regional player with good connections ( thanx dad) ... a local popular kid with access to the best gear money could buy.
However if Samantha Murphy had been a local nobody herself, say an elderly man out enjoying a walk, it wouldn't have made headlines. Even a child who was kidnapped and held captive in a Blackhill reserve mineshaft and repeatedly raped for over a week wasn't considered as much of a big deal, no candlelight vigils for her, or the young bloke found dead on boxing day, due to suspicious circumstances who had also been out on a morning walk.
The Greens female aboriginal senator who was bashed along the same walking track got publicity though. Some semi- naked homless looking guy with a home made weapon, (rock attached to stick with rope apparently) ... No major manhunt here either though , or national headlines. Had she not been a politician, Aboriginal and a woman, she likely wouldnt have even made local news.

Our media is biased on so many levels, that's why I refuse to pay for any of it.

Samantha was very well known due to her extensive ties to her local community, coupled with the fact her husband would be finantially capable of taking legal action against the system had they continued to do nothing is what forced their hand I believe.He was out searching for her himself. Bloody awful.
And, this occured at a time when Labors Labia faction were juicing up their domestic violence against women campaign too, so.... She got much more attention than most people would have got.

It's not about what happens to you, it's about who you are and who your perpetrator is in the eyes of your local community that matters. However, in this instance, the government latched onto this tragedy for political propaganda purposes, and went to great lengths to get a conviction, much to our Mayors despare, I'm sure, and I can guarantee you now, I don't recall them going to the same lengths to find that poor little kid in the cave as they've gone to in order to find Sam's killer who is yet again, yet another DUI who's licence had been allowed to remain valid, while awaiting a backlog of other cases at our local courts.

The whole system needs to be overhauled, it's so broken, it's beyond repairing the same way council repairs potholes in our roads.

And here's a tip for our footy fans out there.... Patrick Stephenson was never going to make the AFL, he was a kid who'd probably suffered one too many football related concussions as a kid himself and lacked attention, focus and self discipline and was a cluts taboot.

He had no need to conceal her body, he would have ended up in prison anyway. Liked the meth!

On the upside, he'll have all the meth a pretty-boy could ever hope to gain free access to behind bars now anyway, and won't have to do rubbish electricians work for Dad as a tradie for it. Not for several years anyway.

He thinks he'll wait until sentencing following a guilty verdict to enter a plea deal and'll get out in under 10 years .

Sadly, given our pathetic justice system, this will likely be exactly how it goes ...perhaps even less.
