Re: Victoria - more taxes
If you've lived in Brisbane, then the Sunshine Coast is a suitable alternative, but unless you have had experience of living in a rural town, I would steer clear of a tree-change that requires you drive a half hour or more to a decent hospital lol.
For me, if it doesn't have a 24 hour chemist, or drive through chemist lol it's not happening.
My eldest daughter and my grandaughter now live here in Ballarat , so all has ended well.
Kids get sick, it scares me to think my child is more than a 5 minute drive from a hospital.
Wellington NSW had a hospital, but it had just one Doctor, and a few nurses on. Lol our local medical centre is more equipped to manage medical emergencies, at least they have a defibrillator for crying out loud.
So do your homework.

Labor will eventually introduce a nationwide pollution or carbon tax.

Has everything!
If you live in a Major city like Sydney Bobby, a regional city like Gosford, Newcastle could work for you, if you are in Melbourne, then Ballarat or Bendigo will work. Not Geelong however, it's a bit too cosmopolitan, if you get the drift.
I know Geelong quite well.
I didn't like it - too many bogans.
No - I think I'll have to stay in Melbourne's South East -
it's close to everything I need and all my friends.

Ballarat has it's bogans too, however since they relocated Centrelink to Wendouree West, it's much better. Housing affordability has increased dramatically in Ballarats inner suburbs, so the bogans are relocating more towards the cheaper outer suburbs which suits me. Besides, it's who you associate with and where you go that determines how you experience any given area really. I prefere to mingle with people that I have something in common with, shared values and experiences.
Something that helps the conversation along a little at least.
When I lived in Melbourne, I felt like an immigrant, like I had began living in someone else's country.
I don't mind multiculturalism, just don't want my child being the only white kid in the class.
Playgroup was interesting in Point Cook, I was the only white Australian in the group of mums, and they all spoke very little English.
Having come from Baulkham Hills, Sydney, where it was mostly white Australians and about 30% Chinese and Indians, it worked well, because we assimilated among one another, but when you have 98% of one race, particularly when English isn't their preferred language, there's no need to, so why bother trying?
Sydney has suburbs like this too, like pockets of the Middle-East ie Auburn, Granville, Lidcombe and Bankstown.
They no longer try to assimilate, because there's no point or necessity to do so, no need to even learn English because most don't speak it anyway. They speak Arabic.
When we first arrived in Ballarat, and I took my daughter to kindergarten, it was so different, and I remember thinking to myself ..... never would I return to being a minority in my own country, not if I could help it. I'd even be happy with 50/50 I love learning about other people's cultures, but to be the only white Australian at playgroup, or swimming lessons, Kindergarten, school....when all the foundations for children's life long friendships are forged, usually beginning with small groups of mums organising play- dates, or receiving invitations to birthdays parties. ..... this usually means needing to speak the same language at least.
