The truss tomatoes at Coles are here:

Not as good as what you get in summer and $13.50 per kilo.

I've made a vege patch.
So far I have some Yam planted, that I bought off the Pascoe Black Duck mob.
Some Butternut Pumpkin.
I might have to plant Tomato πŸ… but then I'll need to net the whole thing.

It is better to use "Italian diced tomatoes" in tin.

You can make Tomato Burger Sauce from tin tomatoes.

Reality check!

Eat seasonally
.. Where I live, fresh tomatoes aren't a thing during our cooler months, yet people complain about them being insipid and anaemic along with expensive this time of year.

If you can't grow them in your own back yard this time of year, then there's a very good chance they're from interstate or overseas and we all know how long they are kept in cold storage before they find their way to our stores shelves.

I don't bother buying fresh tomatoes in the middle of winter for this reason, rather celebrate the reasonably priced fresh produce that is.

This way when tomatoes are back in season, not only will they be more nutritious and flavoursome, they'll be cheaper too.

It's a no brainer TDL πŸ˜‰

My ex- husband who's an indigenous elder, along with my two eldest babies and gradbaby have started an indigenous bush-foods and seed cultuvating project here in Ballarat.
My eldest daughter runs a charity and is about to branch out into not only offering free food & personal care products donated by her donors and sponsors, she's planning on giving a free seedling out also.

The concept of giving a gift that keeps on giving is beautiful.

Ps- Ex husband and I are very good friends, but I am not happy with him atm.
He's started smoking again, and they can't operate on his heart until his kidneys are functioning better or whilst he's still smoking.

:| Uncle Mit ( Mick) my daughter affectionately calls him has promised her that she can help with the seed raising.
The focus will be on seedlings that provide food or traditional bush medicine.

She's really looking forward to this project. πŸ™‚

He quit for over 3 months following his heart attack.

Uncle Mit was what she called him as a tot and it just stuck. Cute hu!

Re- tomatoes, apparently there's a bush berry or fruit that can be eaten year round and used as a substitute for tomatoes.

Especially for making chutneys, relishes and sauces.

It's in season all year round because it's indigenous to Australia and was intended for our country.

I need to get to optometrist asap, apologies for the above, no idea what happened. Lol

They're coming over for a family dinner on the weekend, I'll ask him what they're ( indigenous fruits) called. They have an indigenous name, and I can't recall it
