I buy cheap cuts based on principle, refuse to pay their exhorberant prices when with a little extra love, you can turn even brisket into something fit for a king.

Had some eye fillet tonight for dinner. Not from a supermarket though, it came from the local butcher. Sorry, but I can't remember how much it was a kilo.

Exactly, and you can do just that. Expensive cuts are for people too impatient or who can't cook properly. Any chef will tell you the cheaper cuts you cook slowly have more flavour anyway.

Slow cooker curry base from Aldi is excellent.
The massama curry would be ideal for that rump, just sear it first and add large seared chunks and veg + slow cooker base mix to your slow cooker. Easy!!
Smells amazing too. Keeps the neighbours jealous. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ’—

Mellie tip- a good pinch of raw sugar adds depth of flavour.

I made the curried rump steak.
It was perfect - nice and tender. :)

Excellent, see, with reasonable cooking skills, we can all boycott supermarkets outrageous meat prices, and their vegetables too. We get ours from Kurtis Fresh, wholesale fruit& veg barn. Some things might be less than perfect, be a little misshapen or strangely shaped, but at least they're fresh, reasonably priced and don't go off in crisper after a few day's.

We can all eat like kings ๐Ÿ˜Š

And Bobby, for next time...the Aldi massama curry base is very mild. My daughterโ€™s fussy, so...
And she loves it.

Wow โ€“ Coles reached a new record price for steak today, 3rd Sept. 2025 -

$78.79 per kilo.

So let's say you have a wife and 4 kids โ€“ that makes 6 meals to provide for dinner.

each Coles steak costs $26 so the meal would cost $156.00.

Those steaks are big at 330 grams -
so lets' say you cut 3 in half and use those.
That is still 3 x $26 = $78.00 for one dinner.

I wonder why people are not having kids these days?

Google AI:

Coles' motto is "Helping Australians eat and live better every day".
This motto is part of their overarching purpose and is the foundation
for their current marketing and brand positioning.
Prior to this, Coles used the slogans "Value the Australian Way" and
"Good Things Are Happening at Coles".

I posted a complaint about Coles and Woolies in another thread here earlier today. We need more competition to keep them honest. They are a disgrace!

Beef eye fillet at Aldi is $36.99 per/kg.

https://www.aldi.com.au/product/jindurr ... 0000400168

Aged beef eye fillet is $54.99 per/kg.

https://www.aldi.com.au/product/special ... 0000401085

Coles grass fed scotch fillet is $60.34 per/kg.

Aldi grass fed scotch fillet is $31.99 per/kg.

Stop shopping at Coles and Woolies.
