Justice for Arnie Petition

Post by Black Orchid » Fri Nov 21, 2025 8:03 pm

Twist as car found with dead dog inside was not stolen, police allege did not occur.

Police have allegedly uncovered a web of lies behind the pet’s disappearance.

In a shocking twist, Queensland police investigating the death of a family’s pet dog in the back of a stolen car say the theft “has not occurred”.

German shepherd Arnie was left in the back of a black ute when it was reportedly stolen from a home in Wynnum on November 8.

Amid an outpouring of support, community members and police searched far and wide for the dog, hoping to find him wandering the streets.

However, more than a week later, a member of the public found the vehicle on Amelia Street in Fortitude Valley, with Arnie dead inside.

Now, police allege the previously reported events were a fabrication.

“It has now been established that a criminal offence of unlawful use of motor vehicle has not occurred,” police said.

“It will be alleged shortly after 10.30pm on 7 November, the male owner drove the vehicle into Amelia Street in Fortitude Valley and left the vehicle on foot.

“It will be further alleged that Arnie was left inside the vehicle.”

Police said the car’s owner told his partner the car and Arnie had been stolen, and she reported it to police.

“Yesterday evening, the 43-year-old male owner was charged with one count of breach of duty of care of an animal by failing to provide under the Animal Protection Act.”

The matter is expected to appear before a Brisbane Court next month.

Outraged locals who spent hours or days helping in searches to find Arnie have rushed to social media to express their shock at the turn of events, with many asking the same question: “why?”

“We’ve all been duped,” one person said.

Before the latest development in the case, a petition was created yesterday on Change.Org to push for the introduction of “Arnie’s Law”, to implement stronger penalties for crimes against pets. The petition now has over 44,000 signatures.

Investigations remain ongoing.

I saw this on FB and commented when it happened. So sad! But today I see this.

People on FB are mortified and many are saying "deport them" but I don't know where they are from. Please sign the petition. @holes like this should get more than a slap on the wrist.

Killing the dog is low.
Trying to dupe everyone shows an even lower behaviour
