It's best to know what it actually is before purchase lol. There are some cuts of beef I don't like the texture of.

These lamb steaks are nice ...

As are the pork steaks ...

Thanks BO,
I know Coles meat pretty well,
I hardly ever go to Aldis so I thought I'd give it a go - but it was not any good.
They do have some good things according to some friends of mine.

I've had their porterhouse in the past and it was pretty good. It was quite awhile ago though.

I decided to buy some beef when I visited Aldi.

It says:
Product Details
Tender beef strips in a rich, peppery sauce.
Perfect for stir fries, noodles or rice, delivering a quick and delicious meal every time.

I tried half of it in a stir fry and it was tough to chew - I was worried I'd crack my fillings.

Anyway I made the other half of it into a curry and it took 90 minutes of simmering
before it became reasonable to chew.

I suppose - what do you expect for $25 per kilo?

Maybe it was just gravy beef?
https://www.aldi.com.au/product/ready-s ... 0000677066
Beef Peppered Steak 300g
300 g ($24.97 per 1 kg)
$7.49
Low and slow cooking or mincing would help.

We don't have Aldi around here so I only guess that they probably source cheep beef from brahman cattle stations up north.

I'll try that next time but I noticed that their good cuts were similar in price to Coles.

They lied in their description

"Perfect for stir fries"

Tonight I raided the fridge and made what I could on this hot day:

Whiting, rice, veges: broccoli, asparagus, stuffed olives, capsicum and garlic -
the rice was fried up and topped with Soy sauce.

Would that have been good enough for any of you?

Sauce anyone? -

yesterday I had a sushi and
3 battered prawns and a vegetable patty covered in sauce - 2 types.
Doesn't look that good but it was very nice indeed.
