Bleak outlook for nation's fresh food supply
Australian households could face shortages of fresh fruit, cereal grains and milk in 2060 if the Government and agricultural sectors don't boost efforts to improve food security, a new study has revealed.
The Australian-first project used computer modeling to examine how a range of factors such as climate change, export and import trends, fuel and water use, and population growth could affect the availability of fresh, nutritious food. <---(once I read this I knew it was BS...bit like those hockey stick-shaped graphs produced by computer modeling to prove global warming)
Lead researcher Kirsten Larsen, of the University of Melbourne, said the project challenged the notion that Australia had vast amounts of food.
''When you look at how all these factors come together and impact each other, our food system becomes a serious, complex problem. You realise how fragile our system is. This project is not what we expect to happen, we are playing with possibilities, it's encouraging people to think about uncertainty,'' she said.
The project examines three food- supply scenarios that assume rapid climate change and attempts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Scenario one considers the outcome of exporting Australian food for hefty prices and importing cheap food to meet demand. The result is a surplus of milk, adequate supplies of beef and lamb but a shortage of fruits, nuts and vegetables in 2030 that worsens by 2060.
Scenario two considers a system where land and resources are monitored by governments which results in sufficient supplies of all food groups by 2030 but milk and lamb shortages in 2060.
The third ''do it yourself'' scenario looks at the impact of increasing interaction between consumers and producers. The result is an adequate supply of all foods in 2030, except for cereal grains which are transformed into biofuels. By 2060 there are not enough crops to cope with biofuel and food demand.
While the project focused on Victoria's food future, Ms Larsen said the scenarios had just as much relevance interstate.
She said state and federal governments needed to take urgent action to prevent these scenarios from becoming a reality and protecting productive land around cities should be a priority.

Now...take a look here... she's a lefty socialist carpet-munching Methodist reverend who if you were the village idiot, might think her resume sounds rather impressive, this is until you realise she's a perpetual lazy ass arts student forever studying for the green-dole generating bogus unfounded computer modeled data/stats ..... this is until our government cease funding these stupid little micro-orgs societies envoro-money squandering professional dole bludgers when instead of pushing disabled people out to work we start pushing these rat-bags out to real-work instead.
Under a Lefty government, she's a gov-funded climatic researcher, under Liberal, she'd be picking mushrooms on a farm or landscaping a market garden, not getting paid to write about it and host socialist lefty fund-raising days under the guise of environmentalism.

Kirsten Larsen is the Eco-Innovation Policy Research Manager at the Victorian Eco-Innovation Lab (VEIL). Her recent work includes the very well researched and structured report: “Secure and Sustainable Food Systems for Victoria“. Click here to see one of the many press releases about this report. Alternatively visit http://www.ecoinnovationlab.com/pages/l ... %20report.
Sounds impressive doesn't it., a socialist lefty social engineering lab to pay nuts to recruit other nuts, this and get paid to research nothing they wish to disclose by way of references, to substantiate (in their minds) their political agenda and unqualified opinions to the press, public, any retard who will listen... and suck in lay-idiots who believe this shit because their title sounds quite "groovy".
So tell your spastic kid to suck back that drool, leave school in order to go push shopping trolleys around a car-park for the rest of their lives so we can put money where it matters.
In the Greens kitty.
.....
All these shitty wasteful little socialist-lefty programs are there for the purpose of social engineering, take a look at their itinerary, when was the last time any of them planted an actual tree for heavens sake, this opposed to like freediver, designing a computer generated model of one to see what it may grow into if they planted it in some place other than on facebook farm.

This is where tax-funded education dollars are going kids.VEIL is proudly supported by the State of Victoria and the Faculty of Architecture, Building & Planning at the University of Melbourne.

It gives 'genuine environmentalists' a bad name.

To be honest you give genuine nuts a bad name.

Why?
I think it's a dreadful waste of funding, particularly now the Greens want to make student unionism compulsory.
The greens aren't what they used to be...sure, they were always a bit off the wall...but now, their fanaticism will be written all over parliaments walls for everyone to see come July 1.
Oh, and guess who's squeezing into position?
I cant wait until Ms Rhiannon, who will take her Senate spot on July 1 when the Greens take the throne ... she's anti-Israel and a former member of the grass-roots Socialist Party Australia, ... not like Gillard who swings hard left, but votes right... this ones going to be a handful, a real spitfire...i'd like to see Bob Brown try and pull her into line re- her rather vocal stance on Israel... she'd knock his block off if he tried I reckon.
The greens are more into evangelised social engineering than environmentalism these days... have just bolstered shamelessly to yet another yuppie Mad-hatters watermelon tea party of the 80's... it wont last.
Bob Browns book shelf, what a shocker...

Dont you think that we should be protecting the most productive land around our cities, mellie, instead of concreting over them?

Yes I agree, but for the right reasons boxy, our modern Greens are not the Greens we knew them to be...(I think they have been infiltrated deep within their kernel) have shirked on their core-party values... re- corporate fascism, ....(they know about the deal Gillard has struck with BHP down at Olympic damn re- uranium mining expansion, in exchange for BHP's CEO endorsing this carbon-tax...lol ... but mums the word.boxy wrote:Dont you think that we should be protecting the most productive land around our cities, mellie, instead of concreting over them?
They are power brokers... have succumb to greed.
The party is in fact divided over this fact, and will split eventually.
The grass-roots greens had their outrageous ways, but they were never this toxic ...

So, you don't want to talk about secure food supplies for the future, instead bleating on about the greens.
OK then... off you go, you don't need me interupting your stream of conscienceness, ranting
